Anyone else see this story? Apparently all her FB fans thought it the dog was just being a “good dog.” Other viewers were outraged.

Poor dog. That kid may have mental issues but the mom should protect the dog. If the kid doesn’t lean not to abuse the dog, eventually you’ll have a 180 lb “kid” stepping on the dog thinking it is ok.
Agree with Jetsmom. Any child needs to be taught how to interact with animals, stepping on a dog would never be acceptable kid behavior at my house. I also would never want any animal to come to fear a child of mine…
unreal. This is not ok.
Poor, sweet dog! Disgusting, all around.
Good dog; and yes, child needs to be calmly corrected.
Animals have a way of distinguishing intention and of eventually letting young things know when it’s not acceptable.
The dog will be ok.
I brought a stray kitten into the household. Had an adult cat that had been a mother.
Stray kitten spit, hissed and clawed out. Mother cat completely ignored her until one day when kitten had grown up a little, mother cat hunkered down and let kitten know that behavior was not acceptable anymore. Kitten stopped it. Animals know and when the time comes that dog will get up and move away from the kid.
And if the dog had bitten the kid we would be reading a completely different story.
I don’t consider this animal abuse, but it is stupid to allow a child to do this. It’s asking for a bite. Even if you have the world’s best dog, kids need to learn how to properly treat animals.
Poor dog. And that is my thought too, what happens if the dog gets hurt and bites?
Will that be ‘cute’ too?
Just plain irresponsible.
It will be truly terrible if the little lad gets hurt in the future by expecting all dogs to be as tolerant.

I think the kid would totally deserve that - sadly, the dog would be blamed for people’s stupidity.

And of course all of us who think this is anything but OK are just “liberal Palin-haters”. Palin’s an idiot and I would say the same of any person who allowed their child to step on the dog, regardless of politics.
What about the person who filmed this, did nothing to intervene, then watched the video and thought it was cute enough to show the world. That is the one who really needs correcting.

Are you aware that this child has Down’s Syndrome?
The stupidity is not that of the child.
It is that of the parent whose first reaction to such an incident is to grab the camera, and not the kid.

That is irrelevant. You step on the dog, you get bit or fall it is your fault not the dogs. You deserve it.
WTF. Can she not afford a step stool?

Yes, I am and it’s still wrong of the parent not to move the child off the dog. Instead they grab a camera because I guess they think it’s cute that their child is standing on the dog.

It’s not the dog’s fault…that I agree. But a mentally handicapped kid isn’t responsible…the parent is. But the parent needs to teach kid not to do that AND supervise kid around dog to protect the dog. There will come a day when kid is too heavy/dog is arthritic or kid steps on him wrong where it will hurt the dog and the dog may bite. And the dog is STILL a good dog.
