Saratoga Barns

Watching coverage of Saratoga today and noticed the poor conditions of the barns. With all the money they have spent to put in more seating and luxuries for the rich, you would think they could put a few dollars into giving the barns a makeover. You look at the track and all the nice things there and then the barns look like they have not been touched in years. Is it just me???

The barns are “historic”. It’s an honor to be housed in them. (please note a bit of sarcasm.)

I don’t think it is just Saratoga. I see interviews and horse stories in front of barns in other venues and I am surprised that extremely expensive horseflesh is living in what are essentially horsey slums.

The barns are historic. However, they have been an afterthought for a long time. You might be surprised to see how some horses live on the backside of Saratoga. I am not lying when I say I have seen horses stabled in a “stall” with a 2 rail fence around it for walls and a roof.

Some paint and some minor wood replacement certainly wouldn’t hurt some of the barns. Agreed, with the amount of money being raked in with the Belmont week added in, some upkeep for the very expensive athletes living there could certainly go a long way, especially when many barns sit empty in the fall through spring.

Some horses might enjoy that set up.

oh they probably do but it could be set up in a much safer manner than what I have seen a few years back
