Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve worn casual attire at a show. Even schooling shows I tend to wear my hunt coat. But I’m going to a show in two weeks with a new horse and I really just want to go and have fun and see how the new boy does. So, what would you wear when they say, “Casual (discipline appropriate) Riding Attire”? One arena has western classes, and the other has hunter classes, hence the discipline-appropriate comment. What would you wear?
Tan/beige/similar breeches, tall boots or half chaps, white polo.
Too cold for just a polo. That’s what I would do in the summertime. But thanks!
Then I’d probably wear some sort of neutral-colored quarter zip or coat/jacket (depending on how cold)—my preference would be black, but any more conservative color would be fine (and if it’s truly cold, any color of winter coat you have is probably fine).
It’s still about having a nice turnout. So weather appropriate dress - if it’s cold a turtleneck with a fleece or quilted vest, or pullover is fine, or if too cold for that jacket of some sort. The tack catalogs and websites are full of jackets to wear that would be fine to show in at a schooling show. You still want clean boots or half chaps, clean tack and a clean horse.
Have you been to this show before? What does everyone else wear?
I think the advice above sounds great.
I have, but it has been a few years. I wore a hunt coat, but for the life of me I don’t remember what anyone else wore. Maybe I can look at the old video and see if anyone else is in the shot. But styles change a bit over the years, so was wanted to be up-to-date. Thanks!
Most of the winter schooling shows I attend are casual attire. I typically wear beige breeches, tall boots, a white show shirt (if it’s warm enough) or a black thermal base layer (if not warm enough for show shirt), and a gray or black fitted fleece with a collar, no hood.
I would go tan breeches, collared shirt or even show shirt and a v neck sweater over the top. If it’s really cold a form fitting soft shell or vest that still shows your shape. No hoods!
Oh, totally forget—if it’s eq, ditch anything too puffy or loose right before you go in the ring
I like this top in Ecru, with tan breeches, black belt, boots, and gloves. https://www.ridingwarehouse.com/Kerrits_Chill_Chaser_Long_Sleeve_1_2_Zip_Neck_Top/descpage-KCHC.html
Thanks, all! Great ideas. I appreciate it.
