Scratch Boards for dogs

I’m probably late to the party but in case anyone is totally out of the loop like me lol… My vet suggested training my dog to use a scratch board for filing his nails. This gizmo is life changing  It took me like 3 sessions of about 5 minutes each to teach him to do the fronts. I’m sure hinds will take a little longer. He actually likes doing his nails now. I realized I’m going to have to put it away and out of sight- this weekend, he looked at me, walked over to where I had it stored, scratched it and then stood there until I came and rewarded him lol.
Seriously though- if you have a dog that is stressy about nail trims, the scratch board is definitely worth a try

They are easy to make with sticky stair treads on a board. I think my dogs are slightly adverse to it but they tolerate it in short increments.

I have no interest in training them to work the hinds. It’s more effective for me to trim and dremel. It’s a great tool/trick for those who are not able to trim.

Yeah I wish I had just made one instead of Etsy-ing it but hey the one I got was purple so… lol

My guy is the total opposite, I can trim/ dremel them but it’s a huge stressful event (and I have put mountains of effort into making it not be) but he is super enthusiastic about using the board. We started working on learning the back feet last night but I think I’m going to have to modify it a bit from the way they suggest to teach it with him being so big
