Scratch, withdrew, retired?

I am watching scores come in from regionals in Ocala where a friend of mine is kicking butt in PSG. The class is huge! Some riders have scratched, others are listed as “withdrew” and “retired”. I am guessing withdrew indicates the rider chose to stop their test. What is the meaning of retired?

I can’t speak for straight Dressage, but in Eventing, “Withdrew” means “between tests” and “retired” means “in the middle of the test”.

“Scratched” or “withdrew” means decided not to do the test, and gave notice about it. They mean the same thing in straight dressage.

For what it is worth, several friends of mine showed at that show and the words ‘scratch’, ‘retired’ and ‘withdrew’ are next to several of their names on FV…and oftentimes wrongly so! So take the results from that show with a grain of salt. eye roll
