Scratches-prone horse - supplements?

There was an interesting case of scratches that went around my barn last summer. And the worst affected was a very scratches prone senior (late 20s). I was helping the owner with that one, and my horse also got them due to some temporary booting on hot days. Anyway, we had to keep the area clean and dry well. Then the vet prescribed Animax ointment. Cover that with Equiderma Zinc, which IME stays on better than Desitin, gets less dirty, and helps a little more with flies and sun which were both part of the issue during the summer. For the old guy who lived out, the desitin would be gone in a day, but the equiderma stayed on somewhat through the activity and dew.

My guy guy has one recurring spot that I think he abrades slightly when he lays down since it’s on the front of the pastern and also where he did have a knock type scrape at one point.
