Hay auctions
Don’t laugh too hard. I live near Weaverland and New Holland auctions.
I’m too much of an idiot to bid, and too scary as crap can be hidden on the inside of a load…but here’s what I have done in the past.
Go, hang out, talk to the owners of those loads (preferably the Amish or Mennonites) then offer to deal directly with them and go back to their farms for a load. (ton usually)
I’ve made future contacts with them and have never had one say no.
I found some of the best alfalfa/timothy i have ever seen. I had to cut it still (mix) it with grass hay it was so nice, and I bought it from an Amish farmer.
I haven’t had horses at my place for a while to have to go buy, but just talk to people. It’s amazing how much can get done.
