Seahorse Riding Club (RHE, CA) may get rezoned for non-horse use

There is a Facebook Group:

The meeting on January 6, 2014 at 6 pm referenced in the letter below has been moved to a nearby church. I added that information in parentheses.

A letter from the head trainer, Devon Gibson:
Hi there,
My name is Devon Gibson and I am the head trainer at Seahorse Riding Club on Crenshaw Blvd located just behind the Rolling Hills Estates City Hall.

I’m not quite sure if you are aware of this but the Seahorse Riding Club property has 13 months left on a 24 month escrow to get it rezoned from its existing Commercial Recreational Zoning to High Density Zoning so that Oxbow Corporation/The Freshwater Group can put an “equine themed” senior housing facility on the property and relocate Seahorse Riding Club to a piece of land between the existing Seahorse Riding Club facility and the Peter Weber Equestrian Center. This piece of land is owned by the county of LA but under City of RHE jurisdiction (per city representatives).

The representatives from Oxbow Corporation are looking to have a public meeting at the Seahorse Riding Club facility (now at the First Baptist Church at 28 Moccasin Lane in Rolling Hills Estates (behind Rancho Vista Elementary off PVDN near Hawthorne)) on Monday January 6[SUP]th[/SUP] at 6 pm to present their ideas and to get the public’s input and or general feelings of the community regarding this project. (if we cannot accommodate the crowd or weather is going to be inclement we may move it to the RHE Communty Meeting Room at the corner of PV Dr East and PV Dr North depending on the numbers)

The developers have the feeling that members the RHE City Council are not opposed to this development but know that the community is a huge part of whether or not changes will be allowed for the rezoning of the property and necessary changes to the City’s Master Plan.

I myself am involved because it directly affects my livelihood. If in fact the rezoning occurs I will lose my place of business with no place to relocate over 40 horses locally or continue to run my operation unless a new facility is built. If the rezoning does not happen then nothing changes with Seahorse Riding Club and it continues on as is.

So I am helping the developers get the word out about the meeting and get input from the equestrians and residents of RHE about this situation.

If you would like to email the developers directly you can at:
Thomas Grabiel tgrabiel@oxbow-partners.com
And I strongly suggest you copy the RHE City Manager and any or all of the RHE City Council members as well

Thanks so much for your time.

Devon Gibson

While I have not lived in the area for many many many years it would be a shame to re-one for non-horse use. I grew up in RHE and loved being able to ride so many places and there were trainer options galore. I know much of that has changed over the years but RHE still has a place in my heart. Hopefully the re-zoning will not go through.
