Search problems?

I have been trying several forum searches and seem to be getting a big lapse in the results. The results have a big jump in the date range…almost two or three years. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Same here! I can’t even search within a thread. The search function brings up really current (last few days) but nothing else.

Yup - same here! If I do a search on my name, it brings up all these 2006 and older threads! Same with any other search term I use.

If you don’t mind sharing, could you please let us know the search terms you were trying to use without success? About when did you all notice a problem initially?

We’ve done some recent tweaking of some of the search functions related to The Menagerie forum, which shouldn’t have affected anything else, but one never knows!

As an aside, Freebird!, I don’t know if it’s applicable, but if you were looking for past posts you’ve made, another option is to go to your profile page and click on “find all posts by Freebird!” – that works for any user you want to look up old posts or threads for. Not sure if that’s what you were trying to do though!

Thanks for any additional info and sorry for the inconvenience.

I just tried several general terms (ulcer, tack, etc) and the results found jumped from 2011 to 2006. This seems to be the case for both a thread search or an individual post search. some are a little better but there are quite a few results that seem to be missing. Thanks!

i searched for a few different things in several places, including bridle, and searched for individuals names in the usef pony finals thread. Searching gave me posts from a few days ago or said ‘no search results found’.

I often don’t use the forum’s search functions because of poor results. I get better results going to Google, putting in the terms of my search and adding “COTH” or Chronicle of the Horse and Forums.

The difference in results is night and day.

This has been my experience since joining last year.

Sadly, yes, Google does seem to produce better results than the software’s search function, particularly when you’re interested in using a three-letter search term, which you can’t do with the system’s own search. We are planning a software upgrade relatively soon, so hopefully that will improve the functionality somewhat.

That said, it does seem that there’s something particularly wonky going on now, so we’re going to report it to our tech crew for investigation.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for letting us know!
