Searching for Trakehner stallions by Eligius

Hi all,
I’m going to beg for some crowd-sourcing information to hopefully track down a stallion for my mare.
I worked at a Trakehner farm in college in 2001-2002 in Alachua, FL called Evensong Farm, owned by Barbara Hamilton. She had stood the stallion Eligius (1980 by Mackensen out of El-Amarna) for many years before selling him and his passing in 1998, and had many of his offspring on the farm.
Fast forward 15 years, and I am now looking to breed my eventing mare (Standardbred with lines tracing back to the Olympic jumper Halla) and I had figured it would be easy to track down one of Eligius’s stallion progeny to breed to. Boy was I wrong. I was terrified to find that this line seems to have died out here in America, which is a remarkable shame.
I would love any help that anyone could provide me in finding any of his sons or grandsons that are standing. As the foal would not be full blooded anything and the intent is to keep it for my next eventer as I retire my mare, I don’t really care if they have ATA approval or not. I am looking for the type, personality, and movement that he passed on.
Here’s what I know so far:
I know Eikon stood in Mississippi and was donated to MSU for breeding in 2003, but cannot find any info on him beyond that year or any of his foals. I’d be very interested in any of his progeny if available.
I worked with (and adored) Deacon (1997 out of Domane) at Evensong and tracked him down - he was sold to Canada and passed away about 2 years ago. No known stallion get from his time in Canada, but he may have had a few foals on the ground prior to 2001, not sure if any were studs, also no idea if he was bred at all between 2003-2007.
Another stallion I worked with at the farm was Preston aka Prestigious. He was a grey 15.2hh 1997 or 98 model, but maybe as early as '96. He is not registered with the ATA that I can find (unless under a different name). I have not been able to find any information at all on him. I heard a rumor that he was gelded in 2005ish after an aggression incident in the pasture, but not from a reliable source. This was my favorite horse at the farm and I would love to know what happened to him (gelded or not).
Polar dark brown/black 15ish hh but still growing (also not registered unless under another name, but no registered offspring match his rough DOB of late 1998) was the 3rd stallion at the barn when I was there, and was my least favorite. I remember that there were hopes he would be an eventer and he may have been anglo-trakehner.

That’s all the info I’ve been able to remember/dig up. Anything else anybody out there knows would be sooo appreciated. Thanks a ton!

I don’t have any helpful information for you, but you could try asking your question in the American Trakehner Marketplace group on Facebook!

I owned an Eligius daughter for several years, the owner (https://www.facebook.com/thesmithstampa) I got her from has her back now, she is currently in foal to Lord Lord Luciano I believe, due any day. I’m not sure if she will be selling the foal or not. She is planning on breeding her one more time. I think Jim @ Aqua Farms also has an Eligius daughter.

From all my looking that will be your only access to the line you are looking for

Thanks Amberkez. I had been hoping to find what happened to Preston, or find a son of Deacon or Eikon that had not yet been gelded (Mississippi State University got my hopes up saying that they might have some frozen semen from when they stood Eikon, but they didn’t). But I agree, a grandson or great grandson through an Eligius daughter would be the best chance. Unfortunately, all that I can track down are gelded or not yet old enough to consider breeding (and not currently owned by farms that stand stallions).

After spending a lot of time pouring over pedigrees, I’ve found that the traits in Eligius and his progeny that I wanted most for crossing with my mare seem to come from the Elfe mare line. So, unless the elusive and undocumented Preston/Prestigious somehow magically appears, ungelded, at my doorstep, I am strongly considering Ehrentanz.

Thanks!

Hi. I was friends with Barb, but we lost touch quite some time ago. I CAN tell you this: Preston was gelded, yes. Polar foundered severely. When Barb and I were still in touch, she was having her own health issues, but I’m unsure that he was able to be saved. If I recall correctly, the last update I had there was rotation of at least one of his front coffin bones.

Best of luck. I never had the pleasure of meeting Eligius, but I knew Deacon, Preston, and Polar well, as well as the girls, and they were all amazing.

Congratulations! Glad you were able to track him down and thanks for sharing an update! You’ll have to keep us posted on your filly, she looks darling.

Love seeing the update! Thank you and congrats on your nice filly :>
