Searching Quarter Horse/ Appendix Quarter Horse Beeder Recommendations

I am casually looking for a young horse and I am curious to know any recommendtions on Quarter Horse/Appendix Quarter Horse breeders, that breed horses suitable for the over fence hunter rings.

McQuay Stables in Tioga, Texas.

They breed warmbloods for the hunter ring and QH’s for the reining world. I don’t believe they breed QH’s for hunters/jumpers.

Go to Pleasure Horse Journal Online Forum, there’s lots of breeders and amateurs who show both pleasure and over fences.

Are you looking for proven QH or Appendix bred horses for HUS or H/J who’re eligible for breed shows? Or a H/J prospect that’s also a QH or Appendix breed?

Really no one “specializes” in breeding for over fence horses anymore. Jerry Ericsson used to but he has been out of it for a few years. Leslie Lange has one hunter broodmare that it seems like every baby makes a amazing hunter. That mares damn had her last baby 4 years ago so not very many coming from there now. And it is hard to get ahold one

Most of the over fence horses in the qh ring start as hunter under saddle horses and then keep on going, as quality of movement plays a huge part of it for us. Right now there are quite a few babies by allocate your assets that are making a name for themselves. Artful investment and sky’s blue boy and sky’s blue walker are older studs that their babies are known t be good hunters, but the sky’s have some unpredictable mess to go along with their flash. These irons are hot is another stud that has had some good hunters. My barn has a couple of too sleepy to zip babies that are turning out to be great hunters. Really it is finding that hunter under saddle horse that likes to be a bit elevated and has a big step and seeing if they can jump
