searching

When every i search for something, the search comes up with an average of about 300 threads. It seems that when searching with two or more words, you get all the threads containing any of those words. i.e most threads are unrelated to the search topic. I tried using quotes, “and” etc. but nothing seemed to help. I tried to do a search to see if this question was already answered, but alas, searching is vitually useless. Anyone have any tips/ tricks.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and got no reply. Mods, is there some way to do this? I bet it would cut down on some of the posts. I know I am perfectly happy to read old posts instead of putting up new ones that people have already answered 100 times!

I have been so frustrated by this too. I can’t believe a modern Search function like this one (not?) does not let you search two words together for results that all include BOTH words in the results. Is no one answering this question because there is no solution?? (!!) Imagine the results you get if you search for “capital challenge” (in any order and with or without ‘and’ or with quotes): about a jillion results with the word “challenge” in them and not “capital challenge”. Talk about a wild goose chase.

The board admins would have to enable Boolean Search instead of Natural Language Search. The only reason I can think of for NOT enabling Boolean Search is that it causes a higher load on the boards. But frankly, the Natural Language Search is absolutely useless.

Maybe if enough people reply to this thread we will actually get an answer to the question.

Quite frankly, I’ve stopped using the search function, and I think most other people have as well, since it is so useless. It’s a shame, too, since that breeds repetition in the thread topics.

For other message boards I frequent, I’m able to use google to search through the board. For example, I could type winter turnout site:www.chronicleforums.com and it would show me topics relating to winter turnout on our boards.

But this doesn’t work for COTH! :frowning:  Anyone know why not? If our internal search won’t work, it sure would be nice if google could search.

BUMP! It’s frustrating, if you type two words in the search box it clearly says “Word1 OR Word2,” even if you typed in your search query as “Word1 AND Word2.”

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that’s having this problem.

I wanted to do a search for tips about stall rest, but it’s absolutely useless now.

Bump! I have issues with this too, rendering a search for german martingale useless.

Yes, the search feature is disappointing. It’s sad, because the COTH BB’s are such a goldmine of information! Does becoming a Premium Member give you a better search? If so, I’d do it.

Mods, can you respond if there is a way to search with boolean search terms? Threads are sometimes closed with a warning to use the search function before posting to avoid duplicate threads, but the way the search function is working, they would not be able to find it anyways! A search for cross cantering brings back everything in the database with the word “cantering.” If there is no way to do it, that is ok, but if there is a way and I am using the search function incorrectly, I would really like to know so that I can utilize it!

Have any of you actually tried the search function lately?

This problem was fixed several weeks ago.

Nevermind… posted same time as Erin

Nope. I gave up weeks ago, didn’t see a response from moderators (til now), and don’t have ESP. But thanks for letting us know
