Seasonal Respiratory Allergies--supplements?

My horse has bilateral clear nasal drainage daily. It does not seem to affect him in any negative ways, but I’d like to try to clear it up. The vet labelled it “seasonal respiratory allergies.” I’m guessing either something in the grass or all the dust we’ve had lately with a bit of a dry spell. By the time I get to the barn each afternoon, he has mud in his nostrils (clear drainage, and then breathing in dirt while grazing all day). I wipe it away and clear drainage continues.

She said I could try a respiratory supplement to clear it up. I’m looking at all the options. Can you recommend any you’ve had success with to dry up nasal drainage. This horse has a history of having anhydrosis years ago, so I still do keep him on OneAC more as a precautionary type of thing since we live in HOT HUMID South Georgia. What respiratory supplement would be safe to give him with his sweating issue? I came across some info that antihistamines might not be a good combo with the sweating issue.

There isn’t a ton of science behind most of the respiratory supplements out there, and without knowing exactly what he’s allergic to it may be some trial and error.

The most promising is probably Omega 3 (specifically EPA and DHA). Unfortunately these come from marine sources and aren’t always the most palatable for horses.

Spirulina could maybe, possibly make a difference?.. The science isn’t super convincing, but it’s cheap to try.

My vet recommended Platinum Skin and Allergy to a friend with a similar issue.

I texted the vet to ask her about supplement suggestions and she suggested either Equishield SA or SmartBreathe (smartpak) because they contain quercetin. I ordered some SmartBreathe. Worth a shot.

Vitamin E if your not already giving it may help. It helps my allergy pony.

He gets Vitamin E already.

I find very effective a german product called Mucolyt (brand St. Hippolyt) but I don’t know if you can find it in the US, anyway it is an herbal mix (mint, thyme, chamomile, plantain, fennel, fenugreek, anise, cumin, toxilagin) and it helps greatly my older horse with his seasonal allergy
