Seattle area barns

Hi all -

I think the last time I posted here was almost seven years ago asking about Tampa, FL area barns! Well, I found my perfect match via Chronicle then, so I’m hoping that the magic works again.

After seven years in Tampa, I have relocated to Seattle for work and I plan on bringing my horse along in a few months, or once I find him a good boarding situation here.

Looking for recommendations. Please reply here or PM me!

Some details on what I’m looking for:

-An eventing-centric barn would be preferred, but is not an absolute requirement. My guy is older, but he and I are still very active and I’d like to continuing with some competing/clinics/lessons in the PNW.

-GREAT care for him is my top priority. I know turnout works a bit differently here due to the climate and weather patterns but the more turnout he gets, the better his old joints function.

-NOT looking to be in training board, though having a reputable trainer on premises or who visits semi-regularly would be a bonus.

-I’ve flexible in terms of WHERE the barn is located, but I work in Seattle proper, so it might be difficult for me to go toooooo far out.

-I’m a VERY quiet, conscientious boarder looking for a low-drama barn. My horse is a very quiet, sweet older thoroughbred with many many eventing miles who I have owned for over a decade. Nothing fazes him, he gets along with everyone, he is a fairly easy and painless keeper. Can provide references on both of our temperaments if needed.

So far I’ve been told to look at Stoneybrook Stables in Kent, Pond-A-Luce-A in Auburn, Gold Creek Equestrian in Woodinville. I’m definitely interested in anything in those general areas, as well as closer to Seattle, in Redmond and the like.

Thank you for any direction you’re able to provide! I’m going a little crazy not having my horsey habit to enjoy right now and I can’t wait to get him out west!

What timing! I’m t-minus four days from a move from the Philly area to the Seattle area. So likewise, reply or PM me with recommendations, even just for lessons, since I’m currently horseless.

(Sorry Red, not trying to hijack your thread. Just didn’t want to clutter up the board with similar posts.)

HI.
Are you going to live in Seattle or outside of Seattle? Our traffic is pretty terrible here! But depending on where you live you can figure out where you want to board!

I am on the “eastside” so I can tell you about barns out here if you have any questions. I would suggest Patterson Creek Equestrian center in Redmond, Maple Leaf in Duvall, Jordan Linstedt’s barn in Duvall, All are super nice with big indoor & outdoor arenas, good turnout and trainers on site. But they are also a bit expensive! If you find any barns and want to PM me to see if I know anything about them, feel free and I will give you my input! Good luck on your move!

Nice! Welcome! I’m only a couple weeks in, but I’m happy with my move (though I KNOW I’ll miss my horsey FL community the most).

Also sending you a PM with my info.

I’m currently living with a brother who works for Microsoft, so I’m actually based in Duvall for the time being. It does seem great for horses, but unfortunately it’s a wee bit far to be commuting every day to downtown Seattle. :frowning:

I’ll likely pick where I live based off of distance to both work and the barn, but the good thing is that I haven’t settled down anywhere myself quite yet, so I’m pretty flexible.

I will likely take you up on your offer to get some opinions when I’ve looked at some places. Jordan and Patterson Creek were both on my list from having scoured old COTH posts… nice to hear about Maple Leaf, as well!

Thanks very much.

I doubt you will find much closer in to seattle than the greater duvall east Redmond area

living on the east side and commuting in via transit to seattle serves best when the rest of your time is further east at the barn. living in seattle proper and driving out to the horse is a killer

I would rely on others to advise you on facilities.

I live in redmond work in bothell and kept my horse in east Redmond, so I lived between the two . I had no transit options,

I would strongly encourage you to make use of transit for work commute. it will , in the long run, save a lot of time

When I lived in Seattle, I boarded my horse at Five C Farm and can’t say enough great things about my time there. I know trainers have come and gone over the years (h/j, eventing, and dressage), and there have been eventing-oriented people there at times. But regardless of trainers the care was fantastic, I absolutely loved (and still love) the owner, and felt that my horse was in the best hands possible. http://fivecfarms-public.sharepoint.com/

Gold creek is more H/J focused and I don’t know about the others. If you don’t mind traveling for a quality barn, Polestar in Lake Stevens is beautiful. Top notch care, cross country course, covered arena, sand arena, huge turnouts. You won’t find a nicer place to board, Meika takes exceptional care and is a super trainer and competitor as well.

Polestar, Upson Downs in Duvall, or potentially where Karen O’Neal is now? falls city I think?

Check out the Face book page for Area VII Adult Riders

Flying Changes Magazine

Todd and Tracy Trewin I believe have finished an indoor on their farm North of Seattle.

Mark Grandia (again NE of Seattle)

South of Seattle (and South of Tacoma) Aspen FArm, Caber FArm Back Forte’

Last Area VII event is this Weekend in Spokane (Spokane is in Eastern Washington) way too far to board but you can check out the “players”

Karen O’Neal is currently at Reber Ranch in Kent with Sarah Matsuzewski of Freedom Run.

It’s further out, but if you have been looking south of Seattle and considered Pond-a-luce and Stoneybrooke, you might also want to go just a bit further and look in the Enumclaw area. Back Forte is a nice multi-discipline barn but only offers half day turn-out. Bauernhof Equestrian/Napoleon Eventing is also near Enumclaw now.

Sure- anytime!
If you can live & board on the Eastside, and Work in Seattle that would be best since you have more options for boarding

Based on your post I would also suggest RavensWood Farm
http://www.ravenswoodequestrian.com/index.html
they also have a FB page.
They have some of the best turn out I have seen in the Seattle area by far. It is a mixed Discapline barn of Eventers and Dressage riders primarily. The Event trainer is Kelsey Devoille Stone (Next Phase Eventing) she comes out weekly and gives a bunch of people lessons they seem to do well and participate in a number of events over the summer.

Another vote for Polestar  I board there and would NEVER leave! Turnout is fabulous, care is even better, and it is low drama. We have a few boarders who live on Mercer Island and in Seattle who make the trek up, so its doable. Give Meika a call and come check it out. There is always a waiting list though…
