Sebaceous cyst on cat's tail?

My male cat has had a small lump on his tail for a few months that kind of comes and goes. Shortly after we noticed it a small amount of discharge came out and the lump went away. At that point I thought that he possibly had a thorn or something that got stuck and it was just a small infected area. However a few weeks later the lump returned.

We had the kitties at the vet yesterday for their yearly shots and I had the vet take a look at the lump. He diagnosed it as a sebaceous cyst. He said that it would be difficult to remove because of it’s location and recommended leaving it alone as long as its not bothering him. He did mention that sometimes they can get infected and/or rupture and then we would need to have it removed.

Has anyone dealt with one of these on a cat’s tail? Did you eventually have to have it removed? Is there any treatment for these other that surgery to remove the cyst? I’ve seen these get pretty large and ugly on dogs, but I’ve never dealt with one on a cat.
