Second round tack store north of Chicago?

Does anyone know if Second Round, the used tack store Barrington, is still open?

Is the Dover store that used to be Libertyville Saddle shop worth a visit?

I believe Second Round closed (following a move fro Barrington to another suburb). I think that Tack & Togs (far north…Wadsworth, maybe?) may have a consignment section.

I haven’t yet been to the Dover store in Libertyville.

Saddler’s Row in that general area has a consignment area. I have done all three in a fell swoop–Dover, Saddler’s Row, and Barrington Saddlery.

Second Round consignment store just closed last month.

The owner told me the retail space rent became too much $$$.

starruner, do you know if Saddler’s Row keep any consignment other than saddles? Apparel, other tack, etc.?

Yes, Saddlers Row has a bunch of stuff in the consignment section, including boots and apparel.

Dover is nice, but the selection is not as broad as the catalog. Bring a copy of your catalog to use the coupons.

If you’re interested in Saddlers Row, sign up for their email list. They have a lot of sales.

Barrington, though, is my favorite. Just a really nice place to shop.

Uh oh, I had some stuff on consignment there. I wonder how she is notifying people to come and pick up their stuff?

Saddler’s Row has a fairly large consignment area.

Dover in Libertyville was a bit disappointing. I’ll swing by if I’m in the area, but for me, it’s not worth a special trip.

If you find out how to locate Second Round, please PM me (or post it). I don’t mind if she gave it to charity, but I’d like the tax right off! It was a bunch of stuff that I didn’t think I’d ever use. Nothing too expensive, but still.

I hope you guys get your stuff back, but I have to say, I have a very bad experience with a saddle I consigned there. They kept saying it hadn’t sold, then after a year, I told them I was coming in to either pick up the saddle or pick up a check. Miraculously, the check appeared a few days later.

I hope you are successful in getting your money and/or tack back.

My friend Vera and I both received personal phone calls from Cathy that she was closing and to come by to pick up consigned items.

When I went to the store everything was in bags with names stapled to the knot. No problems, not issues, and we even discussed how and where to donate items that other owners declined to pick up.

I am surprised that you had a problem, Mary Jo! sorry to hear that!

I do admit to stopping by in person every month or two. I consigned low cost items, and usually got $10 or so when I collected money. It was a great way to clean out my unused items, and Cathy even told me when items won’t sell - like a stud kit that I traded to my farrier instead.

I’m glad to hear that, Inese. I think my mistake was not stopping by enough, and it was also the year they moved from Barrington to Algonquin, so I think things got a bit jumbled. But I did get my check so all is well that ends well.

Same here, please!
