Secretariat bloodlines

LOVE bloodlines! I had a 2000 gelding with Secretariat as dam’s, dam’s sire. Most athletic horse I’ve ever ridden but mentally super insecure. Recently lost my bestest OTTB guy who had Secretariat top-line (through Storm Cat) and bottom line (through Honor Grades’ grand sire on dam’s side)/. Roo was 16.3 ch. and the most fabulous mover (thanks I think to Giants Causeway on top) and temperament—super chill. BEST boy. I have my current boy w/Secretariat on the top line—through Malibu Moon and AP Indy’s dam side. At this point it’s pretty far out there, but it’s all interesting.

I bred to this guy years ago: War Secretary by Secretariat and out of an Ack Ack mare.
I actually ended up having to hold the mare for the breeding as their help was sick. He was a BIG kind horse. He did have some hunter babies out there.

I bred a Grey Legion granddaughter https://www.pedigreequery.com/chocolate+patti I attached the photo of her to the pedigree. When I tried to research Grey Legion it stopped in it’s track at ‘was sent to Colorado to become a sport horse sire.’ Zero news after that.

French Legionaire, sired by Grey Legion, was based in Ohio,. He did sire some successful sport horses. One of which was Never Stop Dreaming who achieved Advanced in eventing and was a full TB sold and shipped to Belgium to compete.

Myself I produced 2 very athletic progency breeding to a Dutch, Holsteiner, SF WB sire and got the best of both worlds TB/WB. Movement, gaits, heart, jump, rideability, soundness and good feet. The one still here is 15, zero injections - eventing and 4+hr trail rides and never been lame. Strong, agile, legged up, stamina. I agree iron horses. Tremendous hoof grows his own shoes, cupped feet. Never chipped, cracked or thrushed. Has saved me a ton of money.

Let me find a photo for you, need my other computer.

I am not familiar with your mare’s sire, French Legionaire, at all, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Verbatim as his broodmare sire! It’s rare to see him in a sire’s pedigree anymore. Great stallion who put incredible work ethic and durability into his offspring… a true “iron horse.” I’m not surprised to hear that’s what your mare produced.

Would love to see a photo! I think Grey Legion may have been one of those ‘missed chances’ in breeding, he could have been an awesome sporthorse TB based on the few offspring I’ve been able to track. Certainly, my boy had it: movement, gaits, heart, jump, good feet (barefoot mostly). What Robin didn’t have was rideability until very late in our active years together, but I think that was the Lyme disease.

Just looked at that photo of his granddaughter, chocolate patti, could be the sister of my boy Robn’Run!

Zero injuries only issues were three: a bout of cellulitis from a scrape on lower leg, a too tight shoe and a cracked tooth from an over zealous cap removal at 4 So I’m figuring at 15 pretty genetically sound! I’ve had vets at KHP walk circles around him and inquire on the breeding.

GD It the photo was there! I did a copy/paste vs a download. Then it wiped out. Will resend when we can.

My favourite fact about my mare’s pedigree is that she has no Secretariat, but has his full brother (Sir Gaylord) in her pedigree. Now to find a thoroughbred without Northern Dancer, I have still yet to see.

That’s not impossible…

I have one: https://www.pedigreequery.com/midnight+tucker

It’s not that impossible. Now, if you said no Pharos…

I mean, this guy sort of did alright without Northern Dancer…

He had some okay kids. Like this one… meh…

Gets a little tougher digging through his current 2 year old crop… I had to click a couple times…

But all joking aside, Northern Dancer is basically ubiquitous these days. And the joke could be on me, because I could have missed a cross to him in any of those. :joy:

I have a grandson JC, Boyle Heights Kid, 1998 Tinner’s Way x Sculpture (Hail to Reason). He wasn’t a great racehorse who after a couple of injuries was retired to a rescue then came to me. He’s my heart horse, a great trail horse and loves to jump although we never really competed or did much in that arena. His conformation resembles his grandpa although he’s a dark bay with very little white. It’s always fun to tell the kids who his grandpa is after they have seen the movie.

I was lucky enough to meet Tinner’s Way at Old Friends the year before he passed away.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, just haven’t seen one myself yet. I also live in Canada, so I think that adds to the difficulty.

So funny story. I did indeed miss Honour and Glory in his fourth generation.

Let’s see if I missed this one:
