Steve Haskin just reported the results on FB.

Secretariat has still got IT. His blanket presented to him after the Belmont Stakes just sold at Lelands for almost $89,000. Preakness victory garland for over $60,500 (another commented that was for the Preakness blanket) and Turcotte’s arm band from the Derby $34,000. Total almost $185,000. Go Big Red. For column and back story on the items

Would have loved to have gone to that.

Actually would have loved to have seen him. Stupid me was just 2 &1/2 hrs away from Churchill Downs on his Derby Day. My biggest regret ever not going - and friends offered me the chance!!!

Not surprised at the prices.

Would have been so much nicer to donate it all to a museum and charge nominal admission so everyone who wanted could see it.

On this day, October 28, 1973…Secretariat ran his last race with a 6 1/2-length victory in the Canadian International Championship S. at Woodbine Racecourse. Jockey Eddie Maple substituted for Ron Turcotte, who was on suspension.

May not have been an option depending on the estate…

Gumtree, love that picture!

I was there, shivering in the cold rain. Happy as a teenaged clam to see the wonderful Secretariat race.
