Colorado State University used to have a large herd of Embryo Transfer recipient mares. In 1997, they used some of them for a study on a dewormer made by Pfizer. They bred them, gave them either the dewormer or a placebo and made note of any irregularities in the pregnancy. In the end, there were about 40 or so foals that were then sold (as were some of the mares). I purchased #590a - a filly by Call Me Mr. Blue. Her dam was known at the time as “Danni” but would be most recognizable by her freeze brands: “CSU” on her left shoulder and “590” down her right buttock. She’s a chestnut, maybe 15 hands at the most. I would guess she was around 6 or 7 at the time of the study, so she’d be in her 20’s now. I’ve always been curious about her identity - recently did a Heritage DNA test on my mare (who I still have), and it came back with a hodge-podge of stuff. While I was at CSU I looked in her file, but she didn’t have any papers or anything - I think she was probably picked up by CSU at an auction.
The photos below were taken in 2001 when I was at CSU as a grad student. So I know she was in the recip herd at that time, but don’t know where she went afterwards. I plan to call the Repro Lab next week to see if they keep records - but it’s possible stuff was lost in the fire they had a couple years ago:
