Seeking Information on an Old Virginia Thoroughbred Stallion

I’m still figuring out stallion selection for next season depending on budget, and the most effective way to get her in foal (she’s 17 but had 2 babies already, but live cover with a TB might be best). I

So my question is mainly about two TB stallions in her sires pedigree. One is Port Gaeta - he’s in the 2nd generation sire line. The other is Chilly Beau - he’s in the 3rd generation (sires dams sire). I’ve read a few bits of info here and there on the boards and from other Hungarian Horse Association folks that Chilly Beau was quite nice, and used by the Countess Gyurky here in Virginia for Hunter breeding. I’d love to learn more though.

Chilly Beau’s daughter Chilly Weather was bred to New Twist, and there are still some from that line around. Triple Twist was closely inbred to Chilly Weather and to New Twist. According to his owner, he had an absolutely wonderful disposition. Chilly Beau was also damsire of the HOY children’s hunter in 1988 and 1989. From those two anecdotal facts, one might infer that he passed on lovely dispositions/temperaments. I think we do know that the New Twist part was not famous for easy horses.

According to Doctor Birdsall, the Chilly Beau son Cold Climate was the AHSA High Score Green and Conformation Hunter Champion. Cold Climate was Regular Conformation Champion in 1961 and 1962, and 4th in 1965. (pure TB)

Port Gaeta is not in the index to Bloodlines of Hunters & Jumpers in North America by Dr. Birdsall. If PQ is to be believed, his first and second dams were made of iron and not bad racers.

Triple Twist - there’s apparently still frozen from him. He has Chilly Beau on both the sire and dam side. So it would make for line breeding of interesting horses every which wAy ??? It’s interesting too - photos of him are VERY similar to my mare. Bright bay, balanced, 15.3, and sporty event horse types.

I’m looking to breed fresh this next season though, live cover would probably be even better. Top two choices right now are Fun and Fancy Free, or Mystic Replica. - I’ve seen Fancy in person, as well as several babies and he’s a great option. I’m a little worried a foal with Mystic Replica would be too hot… But tempted as my mare has Fair Trial and Mahmoud in her fist 5 gens too. Could make for a super duper event horse! Both of the stallion owners have great reputations

I don’t know if Melissa is standing Classic Twist, who is a son of Triple Twist out of a Mt. Livermore line mare with Dynaformer in the dam line. His dam really has a rather spectacular sport horse pedigree.

I am also in Virginia and breeding my mare next season (live cover). Although I can’t answer your question, I would love to know your tops Virginia pics. I was not particularly impressed with many of the Thoroughbreds I went to see, but there are a few nice studs here.

Too bad you need fresh or live cover because EMCO has Persiflage. I thought perhaps they were carrying Tomatillo, but they aren’t. He’s a clone, so your registry might not be happy with that.

I saw that… I do like him, but am a little Leary as the sire line has Raise a Native… To Native Dancer. The one mare I DEFINITELY am breeding next season has Native Dancer in her 4th generation… Not sure that much Native Dancer is what I want to be emphasizing???

You know what is really too bad… There used to be a stallion named Red Tail Hawk standing at Mortgage Hall farm. I liked the look of him in photos and on paper A LOT. I called them to see where he had gone, but they weren’t sure… A bummer.

That’s an interesting pedigree for sport. Plus, my one mare has Cosmic Bomb in the 4th generation as well. Wish he was still in Virginia… That would be quite cool to do.
