Seeking out a Clydesdale

Where does on begin a search for Clydesdale gelding for pleasure riding? Does anyone have any breeder contacts, or know of a good place to start?

http://www.clydesusa.com/

Or any of the horse-for-sale websites, e.g.–

dreamhorse.com

EquineNow

HorseClicks

Google, draft horse sales, Amish country.

I know two breeders in NE Wi - Rock N Hill and Larsen’s Clydesdales. My trainer has Percherons that she uses for riding lessons and two were previously carriage horses - you may want to contact some carriage companies.

I’d suggest a Shire rather than Clyde. Shorter and stronger backs…and yes I’ve had Shires for riding and carriage driving.

Look at “Drafts4Sale.com

Don’t buy anything that goes/has gone in a Scotch Bottom shoe (Shires don’t go in these abominations…make the TWH “big lick” feet look normal).

With any draft…the feet are everything. Make sure you have a farrier who will do drafts and for a reasonable cost. Their feet are draft horses Achilles Heel.
