Looking for a place, accessible from NYC, that a Short Stirrup level child could do a weekly riding lesson during the school year. Child is a summer client of mine and they’ve asked me to help find them a place to continue with during the year this year. They are NOT looking to get into riding in too big of a way during the year - just a once a week lesson on a school pony type thing. They are not looking to lease or show, during this time as the child does LOTS of other activities (that are likely more conveniently located too). However, both they and myself would like someplace that can just keep instilling solid basics in her. The child is an average Short Stirrup level rider at this time. Parents are looking for something not greater than an hour from the city; they also said there is a commuter train and they weren’t sure if there was some place they could access via that?
Are they talking about Metro North? If so, you would probably be looking at a cab ride from Metro North to the barns. Do they have access to a car? That would help tremendously and make the commute a little easier. Twin Lakes in Eastchester is good. Another place I can think of is Boulder Brook. I’ve never been to Boulder Brook but I’ve heard good things. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I grew up riding in NYC.
Echo Farm in South Salem – Metro North to Katonah - but then you would need a cab. But there are some adults and kids from city who commute to there. There is also Jamaica Bay Riding Academy - in Queens or Brooklyn I belive - I don’t know them personally but my daughters compete against their IEA team. There is also some barn off the Hudson in Riverdale that might be the most convenient. I don’t know the same but I see it when I am headed to Horace Mann or Riverdale schools so the Bronx - I did a quick google not sure about the reviews on that place . . .

Not sure about the Metro North (is that a train?)? Yes, they have a car in the city with them so driving is an option.

The Metro North is a train that goes from Grand Central Station to various stops in Westchester and North Salem/South Salem/Bedford Areas (Train also goes other places, but for riding purposes - these areas are where most of the barns are).
Metro north = trains from midtown grand central to westchester
Lirr = trains from midtown penn station to Long Island
New Jersey transit = trains from midtown to New Jersey
