There’s lots of hunter/jumper/dressage in the Moorpark,Somis,Agoura areas - and that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing for 20 years - but now I have a horse that has a long history as a western horse, and while he rocks the fancy english gear, I don’t think that’s where his heart is. And maybe I’m really, really ready for a change too. Any recommendations for western discipline trainers in the southern Ventura County area?
Hello Fellow LA horse person!
Sadly I have nothing in ventura for you (and my horses are in Chatsworth). There is a predominantly western barn out in the Sylamr area. I don’t have any first hand experience with them, just know they do cow play days and when I called to ask questions they stressed they were NOT and english barn. (I was looking for cow playdays for my big ass cow horse gelding, haven’t gone out there as I need to have the electrical repaired in the trailer. Last barn rats got into it and chewed up some wires, le sigh).
I’m not familiar with LA geography, but look into Foran Performance Horses. Reining and Hunter/Jumpers.

SplendidMess, i am doing the same, and trying out western. Ferrente Ranch w Dan du Ponde was recommended to me. In Somis, next to Spirit Equestrian. I moved from Spirit to CircleK for the trails – no western trainer there, but we have cows, lol!
Is that anywhere near Carlsbad? (sorry, I’m not from CA)
I met this girl at a show a few weeks ago, and I was really impressed by her!
We are north of LA and Carlsbad is south of LA… and it looks like Beth is in Temecula, about 100 miles away.
