Hi!
I have a 2016 American Pharoah Maker’s Mark bottle, and I have been musing whether or not to sell it or hold unto it. Unfortunately, it is empty because I was worried about transporting it in our moving pod when we moved across the country. I know it’s worth more WITH the whisky in it lol. But I am seeing the bottles go for $150-600 online. I’m guessing I would have to sell on the lower end due to it being empty but it is a collectible bottle!
What would you do? Keep it and see if the value goes up years from now or sell? The only reason I am entertaining selling it is because we are moving across the country AGAIN so I really want to purge most of my stuff rather than deal with the nightmare that is packing and unpacking cross country again.
Sell, given the circumstances.
The market for collectibles is really fickle. Will people know who American Pharaoh was in 2040? I’d sell now
Agree. Sell. How many Big Name racehorses do we remember now? Just a handful, and plenty of (horsey!) people couldn’t list the Triple Crown winners off the top of their heads. Sell it now while there’s still name recognition.
As someone who is not an infrequent buyer and seller of interesting collectibles, I say sell while there’s still name recognition.
American PHAROAH
(Sorry)
No need to be sorry, thank you! I fixed it, I feel like I always struggle with spelling it and I always hope that autocorrect will just fix it haha.
The problem is they misspelled his name when they registered him so his name isn’t the correct way to spell it
I agree sell now - there’s no guarantee anyone will care in the future and it’s pretty unlikely this is going to be worth thousands of dollars someday.
Sell, it might end up breaking in the move. I’m also kind of anti-collectible by instinct. I call them dust collectors.
I hope you can get the max amount!
If you decide to sell and want to use EBay, you can set a reserve price to ensure you get a fair price for it. It might go much higher, or it might not sell at all.
To get accurate pricing on what similar bottles have sold for (real-world prices, not what random people tell you it’s worth), you can do a search for sold items on EBay as well.
Thank you! I am anti-clutter and I am NOT sentimental about items so I would rather let it go.
Thank you! I had tried to look it up active listings on Ebay, but I didn’t see any. I did not know there was a section where I can search for “sold items” on Ebay so I will take a look.
I was recently clearing out a family house and I have joined several FB vintage furniture curious and art groups.
Collectibles are very fickle. All those things that got sold by Franklin Mint or Royal Doulton etc, from the 1970s to the 1990s? Zero value. Also fine china, lead crystal, most antique furniture. Book club “fine editions” of classics. Zero value. If you can sell an empty bourbon bottle for $100 today, do it now!
The things that might have resale value are often quirky. I have a doll that I saw on Etsy asking $5000. No idea if anyone will pay that. Haven’t tried marketing it yet.
It’s not incredibly obvious, but I have used it a lot and find it very useful. After you do a search, you may have to click a menu button at the upper left to open up a column down the left that gives you a bunch of options. At the very bottom of that is a “Show Only“ section and “Sold Items“ is an option (checkbox) there.
I see this on my iPad with “request desktop site” in my browser options. The mobile site might be different.
