Selling show sheets and prize coolers

I don’t think I will be in a position to show anymore, so looking at some of my gear and thinking about selling…sigh, tack hoarders hate selling!

My real dilemma comes with things like a really good quality heavy cotton show sheet, only used a handful of times, BUT has my horses name, and the logo of the barn, before new owners took over, so the name and logo were retired. Is it worth anything ‘personalized’ would I ruin it trying to pick the embroidery out? Should I give up on trying to get anything for it!

Same question about the prize coolers I amassed, I was so waiting and longing to get the first, now they just sit about gathering dust, I have two that I do use, and would keep, but the others need to go.

My need to raise cash to buy winter blankets for the boy, outweighs thoughts of generous donations ti needy causes!

I think the first cooler one of our horses won our dog took it as its choice of bedding… I think that cooler cost about $50,000 to win

Might try doing like the Egyptians when they repurposed tombs by writing over the first person’s inscriptions with new hieroglyphs

long shot but some of the 501.c.3 horse things around have so much donated equipment that exceeds their needs they then sell at amazingly low cost. The one my daughter bought some harnesses from pleaded with her to buy some of the about two hundred blankets they had.

Agree… got 2 nice stable sheets for my mare. $5 each, at a recent blanket sale at a rescue.

You can remove embroidery but it depends on the fabric. Soft squishy fabric (think polar fleece) and denier nylon are more likely to be able to have the embroidery removed. Sometimes, the embroidery itself ruins the fabric and removing it leaves big holes.

Removal requires patience, bright light, a steady hand, a single edge razor blaze, tweezers and a seam ripper. Oh, and more patience. I once removed a barn/trainer logo from a very nice blanket. It took me HOURS but I got it done. I usually do stuff like that while watching tv. Always work from the back of the embroidery to minimize damage to the fabric front.

I am a sentimental fool.
I had a cooler embroidered for my gelding, back in the day.
Sold him a couple of years later, kept the blanket.
When we cleared my sister’s tack room out it was there. It went to my cousin for the gelding’s half sister she had at the time.

Some folks probably don’t care either way. (and one reason why I would never put a barn logo on my stuff I had not control over)

People buy personalized sheets second hand all the time around here.

If the item was good, and not hideous, I’d be in the market.
Plus it confuses people! Bonus

Yep, there are people who will buy them to use around the barn and not care what they say as long as they do the job. I would sell them as is and the buyers can attempt to remove it or not as they desire.

I have purchased used (or not used) trophy coolers for my horse and for use as pet bed, crate cover, person blanket, etc. I actually like the logos, especially if they are obscure or have an old date on them. It’s kind of fun to imagine who and where they came from.

This is not my experience.
I have a lovely thick fleece cooler that I had sent out to be monogrammed. They put it in the wrong place (and inside out). They removed it and redid it (now in the right place, still inside out) and acted like nothing happened. So that original monogram was not on there very long. The impression it left in the fleece is still there, very many years later.

I would sell them with the monograms. What you will get for them will reflect that they are personalized, but there are certainly lots of people who will buy things for the right price and not care about the monogram that does not match them. (I am one of those people.)

Machine embroidery is very hard on the fabric so, yes, even a quick removal doesn’t always work and the image is left behind. My recommendation is to leave it if you can.

A friend had a fat little Morgan (NOT the sporty type!) who had an embroidered Rolex 3DE award cooler in his wardrobe. It was always worth a giggle.
