Sempatico babies and jumping form...

[QUOTE=szipi;4091626]
I am sorry about the mistake -I just went with what I was told at the time. The horse that I was talking about was by Scimitar.

Wow that surprises me too. I have had two Scimitars I bred and both were extremely easy and loveable. Both want to please. The older is a 4yo jumping nice rounds with her amy rider. I started her under saddle and she was at her first show in just 1 month under saddle and even was in the ribbons! The other is only 2yo but winning on the line and has also been easy for his owner. You know, the dam has a lot to do with the personality, probably more than the sire. The dams of my two were very sweet mares so I am sure that helps. The dam of the one you mentioned could of been horrid, who knows?

Or, since he got the horse as a 6 year old, there may have been issues with the previous training. I have found that MOST bad attitudes can be linked to training issues, more so than breeding…

But every now and then…

Seb

For sure!

To the last two posters:

Both of you have valid points. 1) The dam was not the nicest. 2) He did come with a history of training problems. The owner, however, was a very skilled, experienced person, and after a few weeks I concluded that he was just a difficult horse. That happens…unfortunately.

How the foal was raised … big issue.

Lots of people buy foals because they are cheaper but are clueless about raising them. They stick them in a pipe corral and turn them out in a round pen for half an hour.
And that, in a nutshell, is why I basically don’t advertise any of my foals for sale. If someone is interested enough from my foal reports to inquire about a baby, they have to show knowledge of handling and raising a foal properly before any thoughts on a sale can proceed.

I realize that problems can occur with improper handling/training after they are under saddle, but not usually to the extent that they can with a foal, and the foal (and your reputation) can be ruined much more easily.

I have a 2 year old by Sempatico. He has the greatest personality. He can be stubborn, but usually he’s very willing and EXTREMELY smart. Too smart for his own good actually. But I love him and he’s always waiting at the pasture gate for me!
We’ve been putting a saddle on him and getting him used to the girth and so on. Heres a pic I love.

On his birthday I put him through a small chute to see how his form would look. These pics are from the first time and only time he’s jumped in the chute.

I don’t have the link on this computer, but if you search U-tube for Sempatico + Malakai you should find the son of my *Malachit daughter on there, doing a baby-baby green hunter course as a very young 3yo (not my choice, but there it is…<shrugs> ) and also a bit of free jumping. Current people are calling him “Bently” and feel he has quite the hunter/jumper thing going.

I bred him for dressage–BUT his dam was a true Ammie Owned/trained very successful “A” hunter before her dressage career… so there ya go.

I adored his temperament and was heartbroken he came out with the wrong plumbing. Hope to be trying again this summer for my KEEPER Ticobebe.

LOVE Riot’s jumping pic! He looks awesome!

Now THAT’S what I’m talkin’ 'bout!! Very Cute, RockingN. Congrats on your boy.

And, pintopiaffe, thanks for pointing me to youtube.
Seb

Well thank you! I luff him so dearly! But if there was one negative thing to say about him it would be that he comes in with scratches and scrapes ALL the time. Usually once a week and it doesn’t matter if he’s by himself, in a different pasture or with a blanket on. He needs a bubble to be in! It really bugs me, but I hope with age he will decide to get into less and less mischief lol. When I start taking him to shows I have no clue what im going to do with him! He’s rough out there I guess lol. Boys will be boys.

Thanks Noelle! I’ve been so busy with my new puppy I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to you lately! How is Aiden doing??

RockinN hope yours stops beating himself up!

Ollie doesn’t tend to get too banged up but he has been punished severely by his pasture mates for being obnoxious. He has finally figured out that he’ll get kicked in the chest when tries to mount one of the other boys who out weigh him by about 700 pounds and are about 2 hands taller. That has lead to having a drain installed in his chest for a football size hematoma and more recently an injured shoulder but he’s fine now.

I’ve watched him go from mate to mate bugging them while they are trying to sleep.

He’s still quite the gentleman around people though. Hoping he stays that way. He’ll be a year on the 30th and puberty is just a second away.

Anyone else still not gelded theirs? How is the temperament at/past puberty?

I just gelded mine when he turned two. He was a complete gentleman still and was a very good boy. He would get distracted every now and then whilst doing some ground work, but never did anything crazy/stupid. We worked in-hand in the ring with mares working also and he could care less. I fought myself for the longest time over gelding him. I finally did it because 1. I don’t need a stud. 2. I don’t need a stud. and 3. I don’t have the money to get him approved so what is the point? But in the end, I’m happy I did it so I don’t have to worry about him and who is in his pasture blah blah.

I’m so excited!

Hi there- I’m brand new here. I have a TB mare about 50 days in foal to Sempatico.

I’m thrilled to hear more wonderful things about his TB crosses and their great brains. I LOVED your jumper foal video, FLIPPED. That’s fantastic that you caught that! RockinN-I’m sorry to hear that your kid gets himself into trouble! My mare needs a bubble, too. Sounds like my baby doesn’t stand a chance  Everyones’ pics of their gorgeous Sempatico offspring just makes waiting these next 9-ish months seem unbearable!

I think Ollie, Riot and Aiden have a lot in common - they all need bubble wrap! Boys are trouble makers! Aiden is an angel with me generally, but he can be a punk with the other horses in pasture.

pds has a stallion son, by the name of Sambucco, who I think is turning 3 this year.

Sammy is an awesome guy. Hopefully Paul joins in and shares some new pics.

RB - Did you end up making a decision on River?

I did. For the moment I’m passing. It makes me very . The thought of him going to live with someone else makes me nauseous.

Showjumpers66 posted video of her 3 year olds in this thread

Malakai

Hi! I just bought one of sempatico’s babies from a barn! He is ( years old and his name is Bentley. Im located in Michigan. Bentley old show name used to be Malakai, but the barn i bought him from changed it to dream catcher. I was wondering, has anyone owned this horse before that has foal pictures of him, or any pictures? and He is a VERY well behaved and such a sweet boy! I do hunter jumper with him, and will be competing in MHJA “B” shows this year.
