Sena bluetooth for riding helmet?

I have a pair of Sena bluetooth motorcycle helmet devices that I’d love to now use on my horse riding helmet. They allow intercom speaking with a range of 900m and pair with your phone for directions, music, phone calls etc.

I wonder if anyone has tried this? The interface to attach them might not work; the ear speakers don’t have a good place to mount on a riding helmet and the microphone ditto, though they make a boom mic.

ETA this is meant to be in Off Course… @Moderator_1 please move? thank you.

I’ve ridden with one Bluetooth earbud in so I could still hear ambient sounds. I can take phone calls, have Siri read my text messages to me, etc.

It wouldn’t be safe to wear something noise canceling like that device, I would think. The earbuds I wear for lessons that my dressage trainer uses with her Cee Coach system sit over and not in my ears so I can hear everything.

So basically you could have the same functionality with $25 cheapies from Amazon. Just get the kind that hook over your ear and that have controls you can access with gloves on.

That would be safer.

It’s not noise canceling - the speakers are little velcro on discs that sit inside a motorbike helmet. So really it’s the moto helmet that more noise canceling than anything. It’s attaching them to the helmet so they work that’s being tricky.

Also I already own this system, so trying to just use it vs buying another system like Cee Coach. And then having to carry my phone in a place I can get it and have to fiddle with it/yell at Siri, vs the Sena that has simplified controls on it, attached to the helmet (for answering calls etc). Perhaps it won’t work though!

Riding helmets don’t fit over the ears like motorcycle helmets do. Where would you attach the earpieces?

You might be able to jury rig something lightweight (cotton?) to fit on the helmet straps that go in front of and behind the hear and then velcro the ear buds to that.

For example, a friend made me a pair of sheepskin ear muffs for my helmet. They are circles of fleece with a piece of velcro (loop half) in the middle of the back (on the hide side) with two straps of the hook half of velcro that go around the straps and attach to the velcro at the center. Kinda like these.

You could put the earbuds on a headband and wear it under the helmet. I bought a wireless, Bluetooth head band from ebay which connects by Bluetooth to your phone for $12.95. If it isn’t good enough you could take out its speakers and put yours in.

I personally, don’t put anything in my ears for riding. I play music on my phone on the speaker and have it in my back pocket of my breeches, or wherever I can pinch it to stay. There’s too many little things around a farm that I want to be able to hear as they happen.

Ditto at horse shows, we’re not allowed to have any earbuds, phones or devices on with us when we ride in warm ups or compete, and I 100% agree with that. Been nearly run over by too many people tuned out with earbuds in.
