Separating horses: recommended strategies?

So. I haven’t updated. Life got in the way and I just haven’t done much. But I’m off until Jan 2 so we’re in boot camp.

I am following the Warwick Schiller method recommended and I’m actually really intrigued. My other gelding has taken to calling but this time around, it’s not getting him extra upset.

Nay Nay started this session by trotting and all that and I stop outside the round pen with my bag and stick (lol) and flicked it until his attention changed. Then stopped. all I needed was an ear to move. We just repeated that over and over. he would trot up to me. Stop look at me, then move on. Eventually, he started grazing until something distracted him or hi buddy called and we started over. He started replying with a mouthful of grass. Then he stopped responding. Final shock? He walked to the stop he gazes longingly and before I could shake the bag? Big sign and walked off. There is also some licking and chewing.

That’s not to say there wasn’t more calling but I think we can get somewhere. For the first time I have hope.
