Seresto Collars on Dogs with Seizures?

Are they safe? None of the oral flea meds are apparently indicated for dogs who have had seizures, and the little blood suckers seem to have finally developed decent resistance to Advantage II in my area this year.

And if they are OK for dogs with seizures, can I put a collar on less than a week after applying Advantage? Or should I wait?

When I googled side effects of Seresto collars, seizures was one of the reported side effects, along with many others. Also, Advantix II (not sure what advantage is), has the same ingredients as the Seresto, so I would not use them together.

Two of my large breed dogs had no reaction to Seresto collars, but one did, and badly.

Now I will not use these collars at all. I feel they are too toxic. We live in a tick infested area, and I’ve been using pure organic geranium oil, (which is extremely concentrated). This seems to keep the ticks off my dogs. But use sparingly…

Thanks for the reply. The topical flea med I currently use is the Advantage (treats fleas only), and not Advantix. That way I can buy the XL dog dosage packs and use it with a syringe by weight on all the cats and dogs.

Advantage doesn’t cause seizures as a side effect (according to my vet), and when my dog had his first seizure about a half hour after I applied a tube of Advantage, the vet was 100% sure the meds weren’t the cause. (He was proven right a few months later after more seizures during winter months with no flea treatment being given.)

Unfortunately, the Advantage seems to have lost its teeth with this year’s fleas, so I’m looking for the best safe alternative.

I have a border collie mix who has a history of (relatively infrequent) seizures who has been wearing Seresto collars for a couple years now. I’ve been very happy with the results and have not seen any reactions from him by way of seizures or anything else. My other dog who has been (knock on wood) healthy, has also not had any reactions in over two years in Serestos. YMMV

After wearing the seresto collar for less than 24 hours my GSD had a grand mal seizure so NO THEY ARE NOT SAFE!

A few years ago, I used Serestos for two tick-and-flea seasons on all four of my dogs, one of whom was an elderly collie who had had epilepsy all her life. No problems at all with any of the dogs.
