I’m seriously thinking of switching from topical flea/tick treatment to possibly the Seresto Collar. I have used Frontline Plus for years with good results and have always bought the 89-132 lb 3 pack and dosed it myself between the dogs and cats. Any pros or cons from anyone who has used Seresto? The small dog and cat collars have the exact same ingredients and are the exact same weight per the packaging but the cat collar is about $5 more just about every where I have checked. Think it would be crazy to use the small dog one on the cats?
I used the Seresto collars for the first time on my dogs this year. I guess they worked because I had no flea or tick problems. They’re wearing their 2nd collars now, which I put on after about 7 months. I don’t particularly care for the way they look, but it’s nice to not have to bother with applying monthly topicals.
My dogs are big so I can’t answer your question about the cats. Just out of curiosity, are you considering using it on an outdoor cat? I have continued to use Frontline on my barn cats because I worry about the collar getting caught on something.
We got them mid summer for the dogs and they definitely helped - my theory is the dogs were continually bringing fleas home from the barn and Frontline was still letting the fleas bite before dying, so we had flea allergy problems as well as a continual source of reinfestation for the house and house cats. I have no idea about using the small dog collar on the cats, but given how sensitive cats tend to be, I’d worry that the concentration of the drug might be different in the different products.
I love the seresto collars. We were having a big problem with ticks on the cats, and my husband has been treated for Lyme twice, probably because the big cat sleeps next to him. The seresto collars have completely eliminated the tick problem. Added bonus is that the small cat HATED the topical flea treatment, she is perfectly happy to wear the collar.
And yes, you can use the small dog collar on a cat. I bought the small dog collar for my corgi puppy and when she outgrew it I put it on one of the cats, it looks identical to the cat collar that is on the other cat.

Thank You! That is what I was hoping to find out. I have thoroughly researched the collars and the small dog and cat are identical in dosage and weight. It bothers me that they charge $5 more for a cat! I buy freeze dried chicken treats for the dogs. The same product is available for cats. The package is much smaller but costs more that the one for dogs. Ridiculous!!
Thanks to everyone who responded! Happy New Year!
Please research this product thoroughly before using it. There are many horror stories online about pets becoming ill, suffering neurological issues, and even dying. One of my dogs was paralyzed 48 hours after putting the collar on him. He recovered fully, but it was terrifying.
Two of my dogs can wear the Seresto with no problems. The third dog became lethargic and ill within 24 hours of it being on. Once the collar was removed she was fine.

These problems exist with topical products as well, some animals react poorly to them. As I said in my other post our female cat does not tolerate the topical products but she is fine with the seresto collar.
The advantage to the seresto is that the chemical is released slowly so the collar can be removed and the pet bathed to stop the reaction. With the topical they get a larger dose all at once and its difficult to remove.
I would rather take the risk with the collar than expose my family to Lyme disease causing ticks. Lyme is endemic in my area, we have ticks in our backyard that we know carry Lyme (my husband has tested positive and been treated twice).
That’s kind of where I am with these products, Stitch in Time and that’s a good point made with the Seresto being much easier to remove and get rid of. I’d prefer not to have to use any chemical at all, but these do keep off the nasties, or kill them. I use a topical on the dog that didn’t do well with the Seresto, but I don’t like to do it.
My vet recommended Seresto a couple of years ago when we were having a really bad flea problem. Fingers crossed, they’re still working! The inside cat has no fleas, ever, and apparently whatever I track in from the yard finds her, and promptly dies. It is wonderful.
(Eventually, as with everything else that used to work, the bugs will develop resistance to the chemical and we’ll start over.)

I, too, have had good luck with the collars. I have a collie mix that did NOT react well to the topicals, and has no problem with the collar. No fleas or ticks…
Love the Seresto collar. I’d used Frontline on my dogs for years and then one day I gave them their dose and they were both terribly sick - diarrhea all over the house! They used the collars on the barn dogs and they worked good so I switched.
