Hi. Coming over from the H/J forum. I recently bought a pair of Sergio Grasso Evolution boots; I heard they were quite popular with the eventing crowd so thought I would ask for advice here. I love the boots; they fit perfectly and have been comfortable to break in. That said, the ultratech inner calf material is supposed to be grippy but seems more slick than leather to me. I am wondering if there is something I should be using on it (just cleaning with water) or if there are tricks that make them grip better. Thanks for any input!
I just sold mine due to this exact reason- it was so slick. I found my leg slipping so bad and I fell off more times than not due to these boots- even during a show which was a bummer. I sold them once I tried a different pair and realized my boots were keeping my leg from being secure. Even my trainer noticed a huge difference when I switched boots. They are an excellent fit and so comfortable so I would purchase SG full leather boots in the future.
I have the SG Evolution boots, and honestly, I have no issue with the material being slick. However, I don’t tend to clean the inside unless they are muddy so maybe my laziness has let some grime build up and make them stickier lol. Though they were never an issue, even right out of the box.
Thanks for your input. I was at a show last week and had to use the boots. I put some Sporty Hoft Spray on them and it worked well. I also called SmartPak customer service who told me that their feedback shows that it takes a few weeks for the grippy part to start working. Let’s hope they’re right!
Following! I just got a pair and rode in them last week and nearly fell off when my horse had a bad trip. I found them very slippery. I was planning to show in them on Saturday, but decided against it since it was baby horse’s first show under saddle. Pretty sure i would have gone flying when he decided that the 2’ fence was actually on fire and housing a dragon… I’ll have to school in them a few more times before I get brave again
