Setting up Gymnastics question - Refernce to Double H Farm's Instragram video

I just saw double_h_farm’s instagram with Maggie McAlary riding HH Frederick.

First off - amazing horse, I’m drooling

My question was if anyone could help me figure out distances between canter poles and jumps so I can set these up in the future. Our indoor is small so it will have to be for when we go outside in the Spring again so I would like to get them laid out for something to work on in the future  and by the time spring comes around, if I don’t write it down, I’ll forget about it and be like, “there was an awesome exercise that I have been wanting to try but I forget where I saw it” type of thing…

I have it sort of figured out but the video goes so fast and I cannot slow it down enough to write it all down.

Maybe we can have a meeting of the minds and figure it all out?

You might try reaching out to HH via FB or Instagram and seeing if they could tell you the measurements of that gymnastic. Looked like a fun exercise and I agree, the horse was definitely drool worthy!

Definitely sent them an IG message. They are SUPER friendly and kind. I once had a quick DM conversation with them and they were the cats pajamas. I wish every prestigious barn could be so welcoming.

that thought went through my head, I just don’t want to be “that person” and come off annoying so I figured I’d ask on here first haha!

raisethebar - can you share when you get the answers?!

Of course  I think I might venture and ask them via instagram!!! I hope they are as nice to me as they were to greysfordays!

Message sent (holds breath) hopefully I don’t get a response back asking if I am an idiot. It rides beautifully and I can really see where my young horse would benefit from it!

being “that guy” worked for me!

Funny Instagram story:

I follow all the big barns on insta and once I saw one of their pros doing a beautiful job with what looked like a rogue youngster (as it turns out, it was just a rogue.) I commented something like asking how she was able to keep such a soft contact even while being catapulted sky high, (my young guy at the time had the same moves and my trainer and I struggled with taking him STRONG when he needed it while still able to release quick enough to instill a “reward” desire.) Anyway, we got to talking, I brought my guy to them for a couple pro rides, it turned into multiple championships, some high dollar offers, and (more importantly) a humble polite non-leaping guy for me!

Now my trainer and this pro have a great working relationship. Thanks Insta!

Any chance of a link to the video?

Thanks!

I PMed them yesterday - no response.

Anyone care to figure it out with me?

If my memory serves, and forgive me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve set course…

Canter poles 9’
Trot pole before the fence 9’-10’.
Canter pole before the fence 10’
After the fence 10-11’
Bounces 9-11" (depending on the horse/size of fence)

I used these distances and they worked perfectly for cross-rails to a 3’ single at the end of the gymnastic. Thanks!

Have you tried to look at Jimmy Wofford’s book on gymnatics? It’s invaluable.

One more link! This is an article by Jimmy with sample gymnastics and distances: http://practicalhorsemanmag.com/article/jim-wofford-beginning-gymnastics

Yup! Those are the distances that I would use. The reason that I was asking is because the video was going so fast.

I think I figured everything out

Also - they responded to me via instagram and said they would send me them. I haven’t heard from them yet but at least its a start!
