Severely contracted tendons

What an improvement - Kudos for doing so much for this colt, I am sure it has been a difficult road for everyone involved - but it is paying off!

He’s doing GREAT!!! What a lucky boy Prince is. Keep up the good work.

Amazing. Great job, Gen! Bravo little prince!

Looking great Gen. Hang in there - the light is at the end of the tunnel now!

WOOT! Go Prince!

How’s the Princely one doing?

Prince is improving every day. He is getting ultrasound treatments 3 x a week, getting Adequan and the OCD pellets. He is still on the 16 hrs on & 8 hrs off schedule with the Dynasplints but that will likely change Monday when he is reevaluated.
I can not keep the darn toe extensions on him for more than a day. He is so active now he just rips them off while playing.
He is getting a few hours of turn out every day. He is gobbling up the Buckeye milk pellets/creep feed, plus he is still getting the milk replacer. Trying to walk the line of not over feeding. The vets do not want him growing too fast or getting too heavy.

From my experience, those glue on toe extensions are close to worthless.

Instead, have your vet or a farrier put on the “paint on” extensions. The foal will have to be sedated, but then it goes quickly. I can’t remember the brand name, but my “leg vet” who was also a farrier prefers thems. I’ve used them on several of my babies. The substance (forgot the name) is like a quick drying clay or cement. After they dry, the “extensions” can be shaped and rasped and will NOT come off, because they are part of the hoof.

Mine lasted in mud, dirt, grass etc. Had to be replaced about every 30 days. Works MUCH better.

Good luck with Prince
sounds like he’s doing great!

Prince will now be splint/bandage free for a week. He will be getting increased turnout. Hopefully he will continue to improve. If he does backslide than Dynasplint will be sending a different type of splint for him. The ones he has been wearing have done all they can for him.
Here is a photo taken this morning. The Dynasplint rep wanted a photo from the front.

Thanks so much for the update! Lookin’ good.

WOW. I just looked at the “before and after” set of pictures as well as the one above. The change is amazing - so glad to see that your efforts are paying off!

I am beyond thrilled with how he is looking and I hope you are also. As one that really lobbied for you to use DynaSplint, I definitely believe in their products!

Go Gen! Awesome. And I absolutely can feel your relief now that things are looking waaayy more normal. Those sores are looking pretty good too. I can see your grin from here

Darn near miraculous but exactly zero percent surprising. Fantastic job!

Fantastic! Just remember that while he doesn’t look perfect yet, hoof needs to grow out and he needs to continue growing. He very well will look perfect in 6-8 months time without any additional intervention. (While you probably know this, thought it might help to hear if from someone who has been there) also, as little bedding as possible in the stall while he is in. I matted my stall and just sprinkled shavings ontop each day fee I cleaned it. The firm surface is best (other than turnout!) keep up the excellent work. Can’t wait to hear about more progress!!!

wow he just looks fantastic! Great job Gen and Go Prince!

Prince with his new boot splint.

The splint on the left leg is the one I used.

Does he have to be confined in a stall with the boot splint on?

Yes, he has to be confined with both of the new splints. He gets about 30 minutes of turnout a day in between the splint changes. Getting ready to go out and put on the second set. Hopefully these are easier than trying to wrestle the boot one on this morning.
