Shadow Rolls

Hey all!

I’m trying to find a shadow roll for one of our driving ponies. He has a cob-sized head. I’m not having much success finding any online and would really like to find something at a store somewhat local as we need it for a competition next weekend. Any thoughts? Ideas? Thanks so much!

Did you look at bigdweb.com? They have a full standardbred/thoroughbred section… Also, if you’re in Pa you’ll receive your package pretty much overnight as they are in Ohio.

Also edit to add … if there is a track nearby they can make you one to fit exact. Most tracks have at least one guy that makes bridles & fixes stuff… Although with a cob-size head a regular horse shadow roll should fit??? I’ve never had any trouble with the little heads as there’s so many adjustments on the equipment…just get a small one (they come in small & large).

Make one. Or take a fleece off a halter and put in on your little noseband.

Any place that sells Standardbred racing equipment is maybe your best bet - those shadow rolls are adustable to fit extremes. The ones I have fit Mr Fussy who is really a large pony in size and wears a yearling halter to Wall Kicker who wears an arab halter to the long gone Fathead, who was very aptly named. The only thing you will have to do is trim the strap a bit so it doesn’t flap or double it back through the keepers.

ETA - don’t try to fit a riding horse shadow roll to a driving bridle, it doesn’t work to well.

Thanks guys! I went to bigdweb.com and ordered one.

Vitriolic–putting a fleece on the noseband doesn’t provide enough height to serve the purpose of a shadow roll.
