Shadow trailers?

Anyone have a Shadow trailer? If so, want to offer any feedback/reviews?

I looked at a Shadow trailer with a 7’ LQ package that was about perfect for what I want. The trailer is definitely not as well-built as my 4Star (which I will keep.) But, wondering if anyone has one and can comment on theh quality and how it has held up.

I have the 3 horse slant stock/combo, so can’t comment on living quarters…

But we LIKE it!

Hauled household goods from Tx to Wa, use it for a farm trailer, use it to haul the ponies…

I have an '03 2H GN LQ slant Shadow and bought it 12/06 from the original owner. Shadow trailers are a middle of the road aluminum trailer and you cannot compare to 4STar, but then they cost a lot less.

I do alot of local traveling for trail rides and camp extensively, so I have driven on alot of dirt roads, in fields, etc I replaced the tires after 7 years with the same brand/size a couple 3 years ago as they held up very well. I do keep them covered.

I’ve replaced the brakes, reacaulked the roof and around the wiindows, wheel bearings greased, exterior washed/waxed it, etc. When I got it pressure cleaned and acid washed a year ago, people thought I had bought a new trailer as it looked brand new. I like that all the doors lock, the roof in the horse area is insulated, and the latches on the divider are well made.

It has an aluminum floor and alot of the newer models have wood floors, so check to see as you might have a preference.

Ah, really good to know! Is yours a Select or a Pro? I am looking at the Shadow Select 2H GN with 7’ LQ. I would be ordering just what I want and getting the aluminum floor. (With the idea of installing the WERM flooring at some point. I installed that 2 or 3 years ago on my 4Star and I LOVE it!)

What do you pull yours with? I have a Chevy 2500HD diesel. It should pull it no problem but theory and reality are not always the same.

I am most worried about how it would hold up. But everything you have had done is normal maintenance. My 4 Star was recaulked a couple years ago and also looked brand new all service and washed.

I would use mine to haul to shows and sleep at the show - no “offroading” for us and we will have electric and water hook up. I can see using it 10-12 weekends per year. And MAYBE hauling to Colorado for a show and staying in it for 7-10 days.

I think they started building them around ‘03, so it’s one of the early ones. It has a 5’ short wall and is actually a weekend package: AC, 3.0 propane/elec fridge, propane hot water heater, & cooktop. microwave, cabinets, dinette, pocket screen door, awning, cowboy shower. I have a Honda 2000 EUI generator and it will run everything except the AC. I also have a fan in the open area and one in the nose. It has a hydraulic hitch which I LOVE. I had a single panel solar charger installed on the roof which helps keep the battery charged when its just sitting as I can’t keep it plugged in (I board). I also installed fans in the horse area and a Ti-Rite on the outside for camping.

I pull it with a Dodge 2500 HD Diesel and don’t feel the trailer. I have gone on at least 12 10 days trips with it (some time electric, others none) and have done fine. It’s very cosy.

MY first two trailers had rumber flooring which is the best. I am lucky in that my horse rarely pees in the trailer (twice in 7 years) and I prefer to camp alone, though I do bring other horses on day rides.

Keep in mind that the small fridge (3.0) doesn’t hold all that much food. I always bring a cooler to keep the drinks cold and stop to buy groceries on the long trips on the days we move locations. You can never have nough storage, so if you can get more cabinets. good luck
