Shake n Fork -- anybody try this?

I’m considering this Shake n Fork (https://shakenfork.com/) … but it’s pretty spendy. I bed with wood pellets over mats, three horses. I’m also 63 years old and still working full-time … so if it’s a true labor-saver, would be worth the $$.

My concerns are 1.) is it a wasteful gimmick? and 2.) even if it works great, is it too heavy for me? I imagine that if it’s too heavy, it will not be any better than manually shaking my $40 manure fork.

Anybody use this? Hate it? Love it? Meh?

I have had one for a year now. It was expensive, and it had a bit of a learning curve since I have been using a basket fork for more than 20years. But it is my favorite now.

FWIW - I have and love their Flex’n Fork, the model without the motor. It must be over 5 years old. It is comfortable to use, light weight and balanced. (I am a few years older than you.) I have abused the tines poking at poop frozen to the ground, and not one has broken.Other forks I have owned never make it through one winter. I don’t know how much the motor weighs.

I also have the model without the motor. Actually, I have two - one with regular tines and one with fine tines. I have used and abused them for four years and they still look brand new. They are light and balanced and (obviously) durable. My favorite manure forks by far.

from their web site

Users figure they save up to $1.00 per stall, per day, in time and bedding. If you have 4 or more horses, powered cleaning will pay for itself in a little over a month.

so just how much is this thing? in the excess of $120?

no…Shake’n Fork, Effortless Auto-Sifting Manure Fork… regularly $299.00 order today online $229.00 (You save $70.00)

well that Little Over One Month becomes easily two months so if they can not calculate that claim correctly then I wonder about the other claims

Comment from someone who has not used this device but has cleaned lots of stalls.

To me it seems like the type of thing that seems like a great idea and then you just end up going back to using a normal fork because this one made one part easier but other parts more difficult.

Well … I went ahead and asked Santa to bring me one for Christmas … and I’m guessing he will. I’ll post an update after I’ve had a chance to use it!

I will be interested to hear what you think of it.

So did Santa deliver it?

Yes he did! Will use it for the first time tomorrow ! I’ll report back my initial results!

Thought of this post while cleaning stalls this morning lol. Need an update for sure!!!

THE VERDICT IS IN! And … Wow!

This thing is AWESOME! Yes, it definitely will pay for itself pretty fast in saved bedding. Also, since less bedding is going into the manure pile, few loads to dump, the manure will be easier to spread, etc.

Not a gimmick by any means. I had three stalls to do today, after a blizzard when the horses had been in all day and all night. I was concerned that the battery would run down before I finished, as it was a big job. But nope! I never ran out of power and I know I saved a bag of bedding per stall.

Very pleased. And it’s kinda fun to use!

@King’s Ransom Now that you’ve had it one whole week (LOL), has your opinion changed? How long do you have to hold the button to have it shake? Is that part a hassle? We use pellets in our stalls and while I pick things, my husband scoops. It’s amazing how many good pellets he throws out with the manure/wet spots. I’m just wondering if he would consider it a hassle to use. Any additional thoughts? This could be a late Christmas present for him. Thanks in advance!
