So I took my four year old out yesterday. We had a great run which went 3 miles in 23 minutes. She stayed with it and was great with the hounds and everything. To top it off I rode her in a eggbutt mullen mouth plastic bit. Hardly ever had to take a pull.
I have always admired that young mare of yours!! Congrats on her progress- you all look terrific together!!!
What a neat looking horse!
Good for you!!
YAAAAYY!
Good for you! And what a gorgeous horse!
here’s what I think…
I think I hate you…
Not only is he a cutie but hunting at FOUR AND no problems!!!Yup, complete envy…I hope you fall off…
I’m just tickled my 2 green broke 5 yr old draft crosses are doing fair. But they are hopping around, going backwards, pulling, jigging some. Overall they are just askeert!!!
Hunt on and keep the bugs outa your teeth from all that smilin’!!!
Well, she’s not perfect
We don’t call her Lucy, daughter of the devil for nothing. But she loves to be entertained and being half Tb I’m sure there’s no bottom. She had a couple of silly moments but was really pretty good for her first time out. She went out once last year. But then she’s been beagling all summer about once a week so hounds aren’t an issue.
Here’s the full hunt report.

After hunting I loaded up my 13 yr old and hauled 1 1/2 hours to be a demo rider in a USEA Instructors Certification Program assessment.
He had no mercy on me jumping around and bucking, snorting and spooking. I think he was mad because he didn’t get to go hunting.
They both get to go hunting on Sunday, that should be entertaining. They’ll both either be really good or really bad. Our prior huntman will ride the gelding.
Congrats!
I’ve had my 4 yr old out twice this season, and she’s doing wonderfully. She’s also 1/2 TB, and has no bottom. No hunting pics yet, but she’s a cutie. I’m taking her out again on Monday.
What a good girl! Look at her with hounds frisking around behind her and she’s standing there all unconcerned and not offering to kick one bit.
You know, her marking pattern kind of matches the hounds. Maybe she’s a reincarnated foxhound!
I do envy you. I’m afraid my TB mare will never settle down enough for hunting. Congratulations on a lovely day and a lovely horse.
The Grump speaks!!
Sidesaddlerider! I hate you too!! I hope YOU fall off!!! Altho’ I can see that’d be maybe just a bit harder for you but I can hope can’t I?!!
Four year olds hunting just ducky…oughta be a law agin it!!!:yes::lol::lol:

We have one of those youngin’s in our hunt, the pretty mare is 4 and has been under saddle 60 days but not ridden 60 times. She hunted last week as pretty as you please, cantered along, stood at checks and generally was perfect. The mares dam was hunted by the owner/breeder for 10 years so she is pleased as punch with this offspring. It is very cool!

Blush! Caught you bragging on my girl! She’s by Aberjack out of a mare I bought off-the-track so basically TB (but 1/64 arab) and as self-confident and sensible as you could ever want. She’s hilltopped twice now and been exceptional. I think she was born “getting it.”
Yup, busted, your girl is the one and I agree she “get’s it”. Her intelligence and manners for a barely under saddle horse is remarkable, and in a hunt field no less! Plus, the wrapper is yummy good looking to boot!! Her Pappa outta be proud of her.
'Course it doesn’t hurt that she has you for a jockey!
