Anyone have a recommendation for a shampoo for seasonal scratching in dogs? I’ve treated for fleas but she’s still scratching. Thanks!
Ask your vet-I had a great shampoo for my allergic lab but my other lab decided it would be fun to chew on and demolished the bottle, spilling the contents all over my LR rug 
This is why I only have dark Orientals in the house-they hide stains so well!
Have you tried a hypoallergenic diet? Lots of choices at the pet stores-
Does your dog have bad ear issues? If so, itching could be yeast-based, and I can get the name of a shampoo she raves about for her formerly itchy stinky miserable bulldog-Dudleyis a happy camper for the 1st time in yrs. after using the shampoo.

No ear issues. She is a very short-haired white lab/pit cross with lots of pink skin that screams sensitive. We are due for a vet visit so I’ll bring it up when I go in. Also I’ll ask at the feed store about a hypoallergenic dog food. I’m down to one dog so can splurge a little.
About carpets - I don’t look too closely at them (easy since my eyes are bad) and do just fine. Unless company is coming of course!
Oh yes, white dogs and allergies go quite well together! I’ve now got a blk Lab 2 yr old male whom I got 6 mos. ago. He was kept for breeding but breeder needed to get out of partnership so I got him 
He was a kennel dog in VA w/her-well, he got sooo itchy w/us that we headed to the vet and she drew blood for allergy testing. My big strapping show-pointed hunting-trained 92 lb. macho man is allergic to (1) WOOL (2) TREES (3) GRASSES (4) WEEDS (5) DUST-mildly mortifying (6) MOLD highly mortifying! Geez…can I help it if my rugs are all “antiques” (read: old) and my house is well-lived-in (read:old)?
Anyhoo, we were advised to do a limited ingredient hypoallergenic diet-no chicken or beef of any kind-read the ingred.list for byproducts- and check any supplements /treats/med’s for preservatives or “bad animal” flavorings. Petco has lots of LID’s, and we put all 4 dogs on Hero’s stuff-Nature’s Recipe Healthy Skin w/Venison and Rice. They also have a canned version for spoiling your baby. Everyone loves it, but Hero is still itchy so we are doing a series of vaccinations to acclimate him to his various allergies-bad news is we may not see results for 12-18 mos.
Personally I think Hero has no problem with his former diet or really w/trees,grasses, weeds…after all, he lived in a kennel in rural VA for 2 yrs. It must be my wool, dust, and mold-oh gawd… But I cant possibly strip my house bare of my “antique” rugs, so we are hoping for the best w/the vaccine.
You might want to try one of the other diets at your feed store which is beef, chicken, wheat, and BHA/BHT-free. Venison, Bison, Lamb, Salmon or fish-based diets w/the carb. being potato, rice, sweet potato are all ok-just make sure you check dog cookies and other treats too-no more cow hooves, rawhide, etc. It can take up to 3 mos. for the change in diet to affect your dog, so be patient and shampoo/medicate as neccessary.

One of my rescues has horrible allergies. It took us years of vets visits and experimenting to find a routine that works for her. Even now, she’s still not 100% not itchy, but it’s a major improvement. My vet gave me some Ketoconisol, (I’m not sure how to spell it!), to wash her with. The vet also recommended an animal allergist, whom we visited. After lots of tests and food experiments, (seeing which foods made her itch more and produce other symptoms), we switched over to a salmon dog food, with specific ingredients.
I’d definitely contact your vet and go from there, as none of the hypoallergenic shampoos and over the counter stuff worked for my dog. Good luck!
For an OTC product, I would try one of the oatmeal-based shampoos meant for sensitive skin dogs.
Mine have seasonal allergies. Not food allergies. Keeping them clean, wiping coat after being outside, and adding more fish oil to the diet all seemed to help.
MsM, how much fish oil do you give and what size dog? I’m currently giving 3 squirts to my 92 lb. Lab-roughly 3 tsp, I think- wondering if I could/should up it?
The dogs are 20-25 lbs. I cut open the capsules I buy for myself. They each get 1 1/2 capsules per day. That is about 1500 mg. Even though their food also claims marine-sourced omegas, I have found adding more seemed to help. BTW, I cut and squeeze the capsules but they eat the capsules too!
Dogs pick up allergies in their paws. Washing the paws off daily might help; I have a small water bowl doorside during allergy season for our dogs…per our vets’ recommendation…And using puppy/sensitive dog shampoo.

I have a chow/retriever mix who developed allergies last summer after being relocated to Florida. After a trip to the vet, I put him on one benedryl (generic form) per day and got him a “new do” because his coat was considered an allergen magnet by said vet. Problem solved. He did look a tad funny for a while, but will do the clip job again in the next month or so. It also made him dry faster after swimming… Stopped the benedryl in late fall, and will likely start that up again in the next month or so.

I’ve also had good luck with oatmeal based shampoos.

I use an aloe and oatmeal soapless shampoo. You can also give plain Benadryl at 1-2mg/lb to help with itching.
Benedryl may or may not help. According to my vet, it helps about half the dogs. Mine were, of course, in the other half…
I used to have Shar-pei, and occasionally one or more would decide to develop some sort of itchy/allergy problem. I tried the oatmeal and the tar shampoos. The only thing that really worked was Medi-Clean shampoo made by Lambert-Kay. It’s green in color and sometimes hard to find locally, but I always recommend it because it worked so well on several of my dogs.
