I’ve been using Excalibur. What other options for cleaning a sheath are out there?

generic ky jelly
Ivory soap.
BruBoy, is that a goopy jelly like Excalibur, or more soap-like? I don’t like Excalibur. It doesn’t suds up and falls out of the sheath in big glops. I’m trying to find something soapier.
My boy drops when cookies are fed, so I use generic KY to coat him. No rinsing needed. Any crusties fall off on their own.
I use mineral oil to loosen up all crusties. Then use dawn dish soap or exacilebur or any generic dish soap to wash away all the mineral oil. Then rinse and rinse and rinse some more!
Generic KY and Johnson’s Baby Wash. If I used dish soap, the poor boy’s penis would dry up and fall off.
Equine dentist after a teeth float. Best ten bucks spent ever!
My vet suggests Dawn dish soap. Rinse well.
I use Olive Oil or vaseline to loosen up the crusties & get the beans out. Then a goat milk soap to clean off remaining residue
Water. Just plain warm water …
When you have a stallion that does need to get washed constantly, you are really aware of the irritants that are contained in anything else that can really adversely affect the bacterial flora around the penis and can cause issues in the future
Once upon a time, I DID use Excaliber. Figured it was made for that purpose and should be okay and I got more swelling issues and funny discharge and goop, etc and the Farm Manager where I was boarding at the time who managed a lot of stallion told me to throw it out and to just use plain water. Over the years he had seen more issues with people using Excaliber or soap or whatever - even if they were stringent in washing everything off
So - that’s it for me now. Just plain warm water and lots of paper towels …

^ This. And warm water during the colder months.
Water, KY or mineral oil. Nothing that has to be cleaned off as generally the sheaths I clean aren’t dropped.
This is why I only have GIRLS!!!
Somewhere I recently read an article reporting some studies on sheath cleaning. Turns out, there was a higher bacterial count after sheath cleaning compared to before and at the end of the studies for those horses compared to the controls. As I recall, the “N” (number of horses in the study) was not very high, though. The conclusion was don’t clean.

They should still be cleaned ;). My mare gets checked regularly for any gunk build-up.
My Cushing’s horse is very smeggy and his willie looks like a flakey pastry if he’s not cleaned. Lots of black crusty stuff at the entrance too; luckily he loves being cleaned. I’ve been using Excalibur but would like to use something less irritating. I don’t think water alone will soften everything up. He doesn’t drop so I’m sort of peeling while I’m up there.
my hands - I am more of a dry picker…
Generic water soluble jelly. Found in the Dollar Store right next to the condoms.
When I buy 10 tubes of it, I look straight down so I do not have to see the expression on the cashier’s face
