Shedrow barn kits?

I know there are threads on this, but the search function isn’t functioning (I’ve put in keyword searches for “shedrow” and got 0 results, “shedrow kits” got me results of meal kits and grooming kits only).

Trying to price out a prefab kit for a 2 stall and tack shedrow with overhang, so far I got a response from one place that looked like they shipped nationally but don’t, and MD/Barnmaster with an exorbitant quote. I did email them back because it looks like the price includes them installing, when my Dad and I are capable of doing it ourselves. I asked them for a quote because my property already has a Barnmaster barn on it. I’ve found a few other places that have prefab but don’t ship nationally and are only located in the NE or Texas. Does anyone know of any other company that ships nationally?? I don’t really want t&g but I have two t&g shelters in paddocks so it won’t look too out of place, but all that wood adds to the price and the measuring and cutting and sliding into place… :dead:

I can’t help with the shedrow kits, but for searching CotH fora I find a proper search engine much more effective than the forum search function. The format I use (at Google or - more frequently - DuckDuckGo) is to put in the search term and then add site:chronofhorse.com .

I think Noble is in the NW?

Try them if you like what they sell:

There are other companies in the West that build similar to Barnmaster, if you want to match that style, that are more client friendly.
Don’t know how good they are, just have seen their ads:

Instead of a kit why not look for one that is premade? I can’t help on suggestions as ours was prefabricated in TX and delivered ready to go. They also do them with an overhang. Some of the portable building places also do a 2 stall with tack room building. Might try searching those places too.

I was also going to suggest Noble since you’re out West.

If anyone else comes across this and is on the East coast, I recommend Klene Pipe Structures, contact them and tell them you want the Maverick style with a saltbox roof, and that you want to put stall fronts on it. Mine is a decade old now and it is great.

Premade is also fine, pretty sure the size I want means we’d be putting it together on site tho, hence… a kit. Maybe a terminology issue?

Check out Global Steel Buildings. They will build to your specifications and they ship anywhere. They built a 3-stall shed row type barn for me and I am 100% happy with the result. You can get more information about them at http://globalsteelbuildings.com/ . You can see the barn they built for me on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/buildingkit/ . Scroll down the page until you see the pictures of the barn.

What size do you need? We bought one that is 12x48, built at the factory and delivered ready to go.

Not that big but depending on price… Ideal would be two 12x12 stalls and a 8-12’ end feed/tack, with a 12’ +/- overhang the whole length. I would be willing to wiggle on it including stalls and go with a 12x24 open area, and install stall fronts and divider myself, and I’d be willing to wiggle on the feed/tack and have it located at the back instead of the end, so a 24x20. Not willing to budge on an overhang, it can be smaller or larger but needs to be big enough to useful; I’ve seen “shedrow” barns that measure their overhang in inches, and that’s not what I want.

Hmm nice! Can I be nosy and ask what you paid for that? It seems really tall too.

Any company will fabricate whatever you want.

I have seen some sheds that has part of the roof folds down covering the front opening for delivery.
Once in place that opens up as an overhang roof, supported on the sides.

Any one place that makes sheds could build one of those and deliver it.

Will see if I can find that again.

Have you tried FB marketplace? Here in Indiana we have a few builders who will plop them down fully assembled wherever you want. One has “repoed” sheds that people bought and never paid for, they go pretty cheap.

I had a friend assemble one and she said it was not a simple task.

What about a metal building? A 24x36 would give you two 12x12 stalls side by side AND a 12x12 tack room. Yes you would have to finish it out but if you can find used stall fronts and buy cheap channel to sink 2x6 or 2x8 wood into about 5ft up you would be good to go! You could do the two stalls and tack room along the back wall and still have a 12x36ft overhang run in area  you could even hang haynets from the wood if you went a bit higher on the run in part! less mess and the stone dust for the base of the whole thing would be great run in material as well!

I got a quote from the guys who did Ozarks’ , still hefty at $11k before shipping, just the shell. Makes the $21,500 from Barnmaster on a finished building and all the trimmings seem not so bad after all…

At least you know Barnmaster should fit with the one barn you already have.

Did you think of adding to that barn, or do you need those structures in another place, why you want them separated?

My property is a long rectangle, and my barn is located approx 100’ from the road. I want to fence my lower 2.5 acres and if I do, since my personal horses come in and out daily, that’s a long hike. If I put a smaller barn down there, it would be 800’ from the road and would prevent all the walking up and down. And iiiiiiif I do this, I could potentially board, keeping boarders out of my personal barn.

Sounds like a good plan.

May we see pictures when you get done?
We loooove pictures, especially with long ears in them.

Of course!

OP, my barn is 40’ x 24’. The 2 end stalls are 14’ x 16’, and the center stall is 12’ x 16’. The overhang is 8’ wide, which is plenty of room for my horses to get out of the weather. The walls are 10’ high, so the roof height at the peak is 12’ (I think; not sure about the slope). The $11,000 you were quoted sounds about right. I paid a little more than that for the offset roof, gutters, and ridge vents in the roof. I added lumber around the perimeter of the stalls (about $400-$500 I think) and 3 custom stall gates and 2 custom stall dividers for $1300. For the entire building, I paid about $13,000. I didn’t want a tack room; I use the center stall to store odds and ends like a manure rake, grooming tools, hay, etc. I didn’t have to pay shipping because the manufacturer is local for me. In addition to the building itself, I hired a contractor to prepare the building site and put it up. If you’re building it yourself, you’ll save some money there.

I looked at barn kits, but none of them were exactly what I wanted and most of them had stuff I didn’t want or need. I just wanted a sturdy building where my horses would be comfortable. It turned out exactly the way I wanted, but it took a lot of thought and attention to detail. For example, when designing gates or stall dividers you have to take into account the distance between the supporting beams and allow space for the hinges. And for me, the site preparation was way more complicated and time-consuming than I thought it would be.

Good luck with your project. I think both you and your horses will like the shedrow design.
