Shipper recommendation - western states?

As I expand my horse search, I’m looking at states neighboring California. I’ve never shipped a horse before and am looking for recommendations (so, from Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada to CA) in the western states.

I’m imagining the horse would be anywhere from 10-20 hours from me. Would it be more worth it for me to go get the horse myself over a weekend? How long would you reasonably keep a horse in a trailer before stopping to unload, stretch, take a break, etc. I have friends who have hauled down to San Diego for events, and out to other states, but honestly I can’t remember if they stopped or not. (Of course horse would be offered hay the whole way and water during pit stops.)

I’ve had very good experiences with Equine Express, and recently shipped with Bob Hubbard.

Bob Hubbard. My family has used them for decades. Never a bad experience.

Honestly, if you’ve never hauled long distance before and it’s a horse you really don’t know, I’d recommend having them shipped. Less stressful for everyone involved. And I think the horses are more comfortable on the big rigs for the long trips.

I used Nationwide and the experience was pretty good for my guy. He went from CO - SC and then SC-CO a couple years later. They were one of the cheaper shippers and were patient with my guy. They are Based out of CO so ship in the west a lot.

We ship a lot from WA all over the country. My go to shippers are Charlie Gibson horse transport, D. Edmondson transport and American. Can’t say enough good about the three of them

I guess you were lucky… A friend of mine had a very poor experience the last time and I doubt she will ever use them again.

Bob Hubbard, Equine Express. Nationwide sold several years ago (more than 5?) and reviews following that are largely negative.

I just tried to get Equine Express to quote me Colorado to Minnesota and they said they only hauled out of Texas–might be hit or miss the get them to haul to CA depending on where you’re starting. Bob Hubbard has a center in CA, though, so they should definitely be able to help.
