Shipping a saddle next state over

I’ve been googling like mad to see the safest and cheapest way to ship a jump cc saddle from bay area to portland. Seems like the smallest box to secure it along with bubble wraps etc. I have a 18x18x12 and it was not big enough, and seems like 18x18x24 is the best option. My husband insist that i can put other things inside to maximize the space, but i’m a bit terrified of damaging the saddle. What do you all think?

I’ve used a 18x18x18 box. I wrap the saddle in bubble wrap or that styrofoam paper (comes in a roll), and then use space filler inside, and lots of duct tape on the outside.

Thank you TC!! Do you think it’s a bad idea to put other stuff inside?

I probably wouldn’t except maybe clothes or something something soft?

Thanks for validating, men sometimes don’t have brains

IF the saddle is completely wrapped in a protective cover you could use spray foam insulation as carton filler as its cheap and will expand

When I was in the Army overseas I used cigarettes since we could buy cartoon for about a dollar

Definitely use corner protectors on the box-- any pack-n-ship store will have them. They will keep your box from crushing.

Thank you!! will look into that!

Very good point!!

I mentioned on a different recent thread that saddle retailers shipped me demo saddles for trial in a heavy duty box that just fits the saddle plus a bit of bubble wrap and/or brown paper padding wrapped around the midsection (pommel to cantle). Usually 18x18x18. No corner reinforcement as long as it’s a heavy duty box. No spray foam, no packing peanuts allowed (too messy), no fabric (too heavy). As long as the box isn’t big enough to allow shifting, no extra packing material needed either. The saddle just sits upside down on a little bed of padding.

So i have a 18x18x18 and my saddle wouldn’t fit! I have CWD 17 saddle, so i’m not sure why it won’t fit :frowning:

Hmm, now that you mention it, at least one boxes was 20x20x20. So that could explain it.

The saddes are stuffed in there pretty good - there is zero extra room as far as outer dimensions and the flaps can be rolled in, etc. But I could definitely see how different flap shapes and sizes could affect it.

You’re right! I have a forward flap so it’s pushing the saddle to be higher than it is!
