Anyone done it? Was it difficult? How did you package it?
The trunk in question is the size of a large foot locker and finished wood.

we ship stuff like that daily using motor freight… it would be palletized and wrapped … no much of deal since we do it everyday
For an individual as a one time occurrence, the mind my blow a gasket getting everything in order
Have you checked with… I think they still do it… Greyhound Bus ? They carry freight and US Mail
yeah they still carry freight
I just did a package from MA to TX, 40lbs, 20x20x36, through USPS, and the calculator came up as $114. Seems reasonable.
As far as packaging it, technically the least you could get away with is to wrap it with clear wrap/saran wrap (but the heavy duty stuff obviously  I don’t know why I’m blanking on the name) so that the lid doesn’t open, and slap a label on. This MIGHT be easiest for the poor postal workers, if that means they will have a handle to grip.
But if it’s nice wood that could get dinged up, you might want to wrap the whole thing in plastic, kraft paper, or possibly assemble something out of cardboard.
