Shipping a trailer across the US... po$$ible or $tupid?

Greetings from the PNW… all the way across the continent from where folks sell the used trailers I want. And so I bring you this question: What’s it cost to have a gooseneck 2+1 brought across the country?

Thanks for any ideas, advice or experience.

there are companies that specifically do transport of trailers across the country, here is one

Hello - currently the going rate is about $1.40 per mile one way / if you can find a back haul then it could be less

Some dealers will deliver within a radius (usually 500 miles) for free. I know that won’t get it to the PNW, but it may be possible to drop it off a bit closer and save yourself a little $.

Thank you! I have some friends in Aiken, SC where it could go and hibernate until I got there. Good idea.

I looked into it as I really wanted a Hawk, and there isn’t a dealer within a thousand miles of me. It was just too cost prohibitive - would have added nearly 2-3k to the purchase price.

Were you still looking for options? I did PNW to midwest a few years ago. I just posted what I was looking for on UShip.com. You will get an a bunch of different quotes.

I ended up with a Texas horse girl that hauls new RV’s for RV manufacturers. She delivers RVs to the northwest. She was able to bring my trailer back on a return trip. If I remember the important thing was to make sure you hired someone with a motor carrier license and something else that i can’t remember. The good ones have the info right in the quote.

It won’t be cheap, but if the deal on the trailer is good, it can work out.

I bought a used 2+1 from Equispirit a couple years ago. They delivered the trailer for about $1k (east coast to California) and had great customer service. I was super happy with them, and I absolutely love the the trailer!

My friend had same question. Thanks for this.

I looked into it for a customer- it CAN be done, but every way we crunched it it was cheaper for them to drive out and get it themselves. Road trip?

Yep. Road trip or U-ship. I’ve gotten DEALS on U-ship hauling horses and hay. If you aren’t in a hurry you could probably wait out a good deal moving a trailer.

Depends who you’re working with. Earlier this year I bought a trailer and had it shipped 700 miles. It was a new trailer and the dealer and i split the costs-- I paid $500 for shipping.

I imagine the margins would be too low on a used trailer for that kind of arrangement to be worthwhile to the dealer.
