Shipping dressage saddle pads

Does anyone know of an economical way to ship saddle pads? If I fold the saddle pad long ways so the seam is not folded in half, it ends up costing more to ship because the length of the box or shipping bag is more than 12". But, if I want to save money on shipping but not shipping it is a rectangle, I feel as though bending the seam might cause some damage to it.

I told them in as small as I can then put them in an inside out grain bag cut down to size, the secure with packing tape, slap on a label!

Priority Mail 2-Day™ Large Flat Rate Box

USPS-Produced Box: 23-11/16" x 11-3/4" x 3" or 12" x 12" x 5-1/2"
Pad rolled up.
$19.95 East to West Coast.

Typically, shipping cost is due to the weight with an increase in cost when a package is over 2lbs and again over 5lbs if you are shipping with USPS. The size of the package only comes into play if the LxWxH is greater than I think 74" (don’t quote me on that).

So the best way to keep the cost down is to keep the weight of the total package down. Instead of using a box, when I ship a saddle pad I use a large white plastic shipping bag (I get them on Amazon, they’re only about $0.50/per bag for ones large enough to ship a saddle pad). I then fold the pad lengthwise. This typically keeps the package under 2lbs and my shipping cost is usually around $7.50 for USPS priority mail.

Hope that helps!
