shipping the western saddle

I have a western saddle that I am selling and wondered how I can keep the shipping price down? Some people tell me they pay $50 but when I called ups they said $200! Its a 31 lb saddle and I have the dimensions which I might be able to pare down a bit. any suggestions? thanks…

I wrapped mine in a lg. piece of fleece fabric, then bubble wrap, then a garbage bag. Put it in a box, with packing peanuts then took it to USPO. It was under $100. Remember to insure it

It was only going 2 states away.

Shipped a saddle with FedEx Home Delivery. 50# show saddle, well packed. Cost under $50. Home Delivery was by far the cheapest AND was delivered in 2 days.

I don’t ship saddles very often, but it’s always at least $50 but usually close to $100. They are a LARGE item that is heavy, in terms of mail packages. They are expensive to ship.

I have a store in my area that will pack items for you, and then will compare FedEx, UPS and regular USPS and see which one gives you the best rate. They are awesome. I love that store!

Sign up for a Fed Ex account as you save money on the rate.

I bought a saddle last month and the seller and I could not figure out why my estimate was lower using the box measurements and weight that she sent. My Fed Ex account said $89.99 and her estimate online was $130.24. Once she signed up for an account, she got the $89 rate.

The saddle above was shipped in a large box measuring 30" x 20" x 20" and weighed 38 lbs.

I shipped 30 lb. western saddle in a smaller box measuring 26" x 22" x 14" for $45 a week ago.

The oversized box for the first saddle really added to the cost. But to get the better rates with Fed. Ex you need to sign up for an account.

Buy your own box from Staples, wrap and pack it yourself then take it to FEDEX… UPS charges a crazy amount for the box and packaging materials.
