Shirt for hunting in heat

I have an all-cotton show shirt that tends to get damp when we’re hunting, so I’m looking for something better for Spring hunting. Can anyone recommend a shirt that’s good for humidity? Or a thin layering piece underneath that will help with wicking? I’d buy one of the Coolmax hunt coats, but that’s just not in the budget right now.

Are you wearing a stock tie as well? I highly recommend Under Armour heat gear. They have heat get mock shirts, they are wonderful for wicking.

Yup, stock tie too.

Then, I definitely suggest the heat gear mocks. The neck is high enough that if you pin the stock tie to it, it works really well. I use the cold gear mocks for winter, and have heat gear t-shirts for riding during the summer (we don’t hunt much when it’s hot).

I saw this title and I thought, “Just what is it you are hunting while you are in heat my dear?” and then I realized what you meant. It really has been a day so far, I have this neighbor that’s a real a&*hole…anyway, you might wanna edit the title

I have a show shirt that is great, it’s cotton, and has two vents in the back that have mesh over them so it breathes really well. I have 3, and wear them all the time here in FL and stay very comfortable most of the time. Sometimes it’s just so hot it doesn’t matter what you do, but at least the shirts are a little bit ventilated.

I LOVE underarmour for the winter but didn’t know anyone that used the heat gear for summer riding. So it works? Here? Do you wear it for daily riding/barn/farm chores or just for riding?

What, and ruin the fun?

What brand is that shirt with mesh?

They’re different brands, but all look the same. I know one has a tag in the collar that says “USPC” but I"ll have to look at the others. I really like them because they still look nice when you take your coat off, say for the breakfast.

I don’t wear the mocks during the summer, but I do wear the V-neck shirts during the summer and LOVE them. I do everything in them. I just picked up two of the heat gear polos for jumper shows this summer. I had one last summer for showing, and LOVED it. I’ll work around the barn in them too. They’re the same shirts I’ll wear to the gym. I really stand by how great they are for summer (and of course I love them for winter too).

Anything active in the heat I do in UnderArmour Heat Gear.

There are a couple of companies that make CoolMax stockties, too.

I bought a couple of CoolMax short-sleeved tops at Costco last year - Asics, I think. They had zippered pockets at the lower waist (why, I have no idea) which I snipped off, but I can open the zipper a bit for, um, breeze.

They have zip-up fronts, with high-ish necks, and are perfect for wearing with a stock under a jacket, because the button-hole on the stock snaps around the zipper puller thingy and holds it in place.

Still much prefer 100% linen shirts from Equine Athletics, though.

Ok one says Cambral on the tag and the other says USPC. The third one I can’t read the tag anymore.

Just did a quick search: Equetech, Dublin, Caldene, Musto, all do show shirts, ie with collars suitable for stocks, with vents and/or mesh inserts.

I have both Kerrits and Irideon shirts that I use for this (and also for eventing and dressage in the hotter weather). They are something coolmax-like with mesh panels, with a zip at front of neck and a loop of fabric at the back of neck that I put my stock tie through. Pretty cheap - I think $20 - $30.
