Short rider - forward vs. straight flap? Monoflap saddle fit

Hi everyone!

I’m wondering if anyone can help explain how a forward vs. a straight flap on a jump saddle will affect my stability and position? For the short riders out there, which one of these do you ride in and why did you choose that?

I’ve had my saddle rep out and she says she likes me in both the forward flap and straight flap monoflap saddles she had me try. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the right combination of exact seat and flap sizes for me to try, so It’s been incredibly difficult for me to discern what individual aspects of each saddle I like, and how the forward vs. straight flap on it’s own affects my position and stability. Please help! Thanks!

I’m short and I didn’t like how monoflaps were built - they are more for an average or tall rider. Plus I find it difficult to tighten the girth on those.

Therefore I got a two flap saddle with more forward flaps and the knee block higher up so that my thighand knee actually hit the right parts of the saddle. The flap is also shorter and I have adjustable calf blocks.

It’s been amazing riding in something that actually fits!

Can’t speak to a monoflap as I haven’t found one I like, but as a short person I also love my short forward flap saddle. It’s made a world of difference. I didn’t feel like I could “use” my saddle as much in the monoflap.

I am a short rider and ride in monoflaps with an extra forward flap but that is only because I am long from hip to knee. Forward or standard is really an issue of how you are built.

I’m 5’ 3" and I ride in a short forward flap. My thigh is long but my legs are short.

Thanks everyone! This is all helpful! :)”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹

I’m short and vastly prefer a monoflap, with a slightly forward flap, a 1a in an Antarès or devoucoux. I feel like it allows me to get more leg on the horse, especially important with my homebred mare who keeps growing.

5’1" here. Forward for sure, short is relative to the forward. The more forward, the shorter it needs to be to look ok.

I’m 5’2” with a longer thigh and shorter calf. Love the forward flap monos (Devoucoux in particular). Totally dependent on your comfort as to what works better for you
