Short rider looking for a saddle with maximum contact

Long time lurker here but this is my first time posting. I am 5’3" and ride predominately jumpers. I am looking at purchasing a new saddle (I’ve ridden in Butet all my life), but I would like to have very little between the horse and me. The thicker the saddle, the less I can wrap my legs around the horse. I would like something deep seat and was even thinking a monoflap saddle. Any recommendations or advice?

I am 5’…definitely a Monoflap. I have a Devocoux I had made-Sacoa seat with Chilberta flaps, not forward. It has that sweet spot you are looking for on a number of different horses.

I am the same height as you and LOVE my Black Country Quantum. It’s not a monoflap, but feels like one. I really feel like I can snuggle in and keep my leg right where it needs to be!

Just to clarify, a deeper sear does not put you closer to the horse, though it may feel that way. A deep-seated saddle has a differently shaped seat, and frequently just has a higher cantle.

I am also 5’3" and feel your pain! A couple years ago I was saddle shopping and landed between a Devoucoux Chiberta and a L’Apogee XC (almost the same saddle) and went with the L’Apogee–which was also a better price tag. I seriously ADORE the L’Apogee and Kitty Garrity’s customer service is phenomenal.

As a Butet lover myself I ended up with a BC Solare & loved Voltaire as well.

i actually can’t stand monoflaps & tried I think every option on the market (except the Butet monoflap). Felt too stuck & like too much saddle, or twist too wide. If you like Butets a wide twist will likely be unpleasant, IME.

Check into Buffalo. I have a Voltaire Lexington monoflap in Buffalo and a Voltaire Stuttgart in Buffalo. It is so sticky, I love it!

Tad coffin? I had one of his dressage saddles and it was, on that horse, the closest contact saddle I’ve ever ridden in. The balance was perfect too.

Thank you guys for all your responses! I have so many I want to try now!!

What did you end up going with?

Also, does anyone here have any opinions on forward vs. straight flap for a short (5 ft.) rider? I’ve had my saddle rep out and she says she likes me in both the forward flap and straight flap monoflap saddles she has. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the right combination of exact seat and flap sizes for me to try, so It’s been incredibly difficult for me to discern what individual aspects of each saddle I like, and how the forward vs. straight flap on it’s own affects my position and stability. Please help! Thanks!
