Short Term Lease Extension / Short Term Insurance

Hello all. I have leased a horse for the past year and had in mind the extension of the lease for just about a week or so, to allow me to do one last show with the horse. However, the insurer I used for coverage for the year will not allow an extension.
Anyone know of an option to provide for insurance for just about a week?

Have you talked to the owner about this? I assume their insurance will pick back up at the end of your original lease term - could you pay them a pro rated amount for the last week (for instance if their insurance is $5200 a year, you pay them $100)?

I agree that the best course of action may be to pay the owner a pro-rated amount for the premium for just the time you extend. You would be hard pressed to find a company that is willing to insure for just one week. I have never seen this but - they could be out there!

I’ve always held the insurance as the owner when leasing anyway and just charged the person leasing my horse the premium.
